Heroes of Celunia

Saving Celunia

The Heroes of Celunia are an adventuring party located in Hekros. They began their maiden adventure when summoned to Celunia by Milmo the Typomancer, who used an animal messenger spell to entreat their aid for his village. Celunia was being ravaged by a plague, and Milmo had divined that a malicious spellcaster was the source, however no one in his home town believed him.   The party trusted him and aided him in his divination, revealing the spellcaster's location to be nearby at The Labyrinth of Volendac. They ventured into the labyrinth and subsequently captured Emerick Hardenloss, the demonologist, ending his harassment of Celunia. In exchange for their aid, Milmo granted the party the Map to Jothriksh, a gift he received from a fisherman when they got their nets tangled on the docks.   While interrogating Emerick, he revealed to the party the purpose for his crimes in Celunia. He had been living in isolation, having escaped the abusive relationship he had with his former mentor, Darius Korr. Korr however sent him a nightmarish vision while Emerick slept, and warned that he was coming south from Crablack to wreck havoc over the land. Fearing his old mentor would do far more evil than he ever could, Emerick unleashed a plague on Celunia, causing infected residents to enter into a comatose state until they were thought to be dead and buried alive. Emerick then sent his imp familiar to harvest the bodies from their graves.   The Heroes of Celunia discovered the graverobbing and, with Milmo's aid, tracked Emerick down to the Labyrinth of Volendac and captured him. He revealed his intention to possess the kidnapped villagers with demonic entities, in an attempt to raise an infernal army against Korr. The Heroes decided to allow Emerick to live after promising them to help stop the greater evil, and also after confiscating his main weapon, a two-bladed sword called Reckonclaw, and removing three of his fingers from one hand.

Travel to Hekros

Upon returning to Celunia, the village showered the party with praise and eventually ensured Milmo's well-being for summoning them. Milmo gifted the party with the Map to Jothriksh. The map was emblazoned with Darius Korr's family crest, recognizable also on the blade of Reckonclaw (Korr was its creator), and the party decided to travel to the island to learn more. Since the island was abandoned and isolated, no ships would offer passage there, and the Heroes decided to purchase their own seaworthy vessel. To save up money, the party decided to travel to the main city of Hekros to save funds for the purchase.

The Clearing of Underthunk Mine

The party found their next mission on a bounty board in a Celunia tavern. They would accept payment from Rox Mining Company to clear out an old mine of monsters that the company wished to reopen. Located three days' travel from Hekros, the party ventured toward Underthunk Mine. At the mine's rear, they discovered a vault door to the Citadel of the Obsidian Golem, an dwarven citadel from the Royal Era now maintained by the Order of the Obsidian Spears. At the citadel's center, they encountered a stone golem wielding an obsidian greatsword, that immediately recognized Gardus Ashenforge of the party as a "heretic". Upon the party defeating the golem, it used its dying breath to utter the word "prophecy". The party also recovered a strange golden orb.

The Trials of the Rook

After clearing Underthunk Mine, the party returned to Hekros, and signed up for a gladiator tournament to increase their funds further. The tournament consisted of three trials they would face against another team, and whoever succeeds at the majority of these will be allowed to face a final monster in exchange for a grand prize.   The first trial consisted of a capture the flag like game. They faced off against another party of six adventurers. The second trial was a naval battle, and the third a battle royale, which the Heroes of Celunia won all three.   Finally, the group faced a creature summoned by the tournament wizard staff. However, there was a mistake, and the staff accidentally summoned a Fomorentler, a pseudonatural creature far more lethal than intended. The reasons for the error are unknown and under investigation by the Hekrosian militia, but the group suspects sabotage.   After this, they received a sponsored sailing caravel from the Rubygarden Shipbuilding Company. After this point, the party referred to themselves as the Crew of the Wraith. They left Emerick in the hands of Hekros's criminal justice courts, and hired a crew to travel to the Temple of Jothriksh.
