Uzuli

The Reaper

Uzuli, also known as ‘the Reaper’ and the head servant of Phaedra. He sees that the lives she has gifted are properly escorted to their eternal resting places. He is the final judge of mortals in determining which Plane they depart to, sending good souls to the heavenly Syntropic Plane, evil souls to the hellish Entropic Plane . He earns the patronage of warriors, who often pay homage to him before battle, hoping that he will look fondly upon them and accept their offerings in lieu of their own souls.

Personal history

A great deal of divine orchestration goes into the passing of a mortal soul, and Uzuli is the composer of it all. Whenever Manari summons Uzuli for a passing, usually by sending his messenger Vytali, he is first escorted to the lost soul. Then Uzuli will take the departed in his canoe, and they begin to sail through the Sidereal Plane. There, the plane is divided into an endless nightly sky, and a perfectly clear, bottomless ocean. Both the astral sky and ocean are speckled with stars, each being a portal to another part of another plane.   Often Uzuli will already know the destination of a departed one. If they are going to Ahnei’s Syntropic Plane, he will play a flute for them, in a soothing or peaceful tune. If they are damned to Lalos’s Entropic hell, he will often scold them in a cold silence, his face hidden in the shadow of his hooded cloak. For those who were truly evil, they receive the lonely, steady beats of a solemn drum. Those with neither good nor evil intentions, or with business left undone, are sent as ethereal spirits to the Sepulchral Plane.

Lore

Contribution by Elizabeth Schrier

Once, and only once, was a mortal able to cheat the Reaper. Using an artifact from an unknown era, a black stone that once fell from the sky unto Craedock, the man, named Kazesash, had ceased aging. It wasn’t until the man lost his life in a storm at sea after a few hundred years of life. He had grown cynical, angry at the thought of death, and often cursed Uzuli in prayer. When Uzuli finally came and was escorting him across the Astral river, Kazesash used the stone to cast a light and blind the Reaper, and jump out of the boat.   It is now said that Rinsha keeps Kazesash, now a lich, in asylum in the Ethereal Plane, covetous of the only mortal to cheat his brother.

Likes & Dislikes

Many believe that Uzuli has a love for music, the myth expanding from reports of those who cross over briefly hearing the sound of someone playing a flute. Because of this, many cultures create battle songs or chants in the hopes that Uzuli will take up the tune, so that all who perish on the allied side will hear it and not be caught by surprise when death comes; and the individuals on the opposing side will know who slaughtered them.
