Caleaden
Caleaden have a complicated history: their closest genetic relatives are the Erudites, descended from the remnants of lost Hycin people, split off several hundred years before the First Ruination, around 350 BFR. The Caleadens were hunted by the barbarian tribes of the mainland and rejected by the nascent kingdoms of Voranor and Eoland, so they made their way through the Vales, founding the tiny nation of the Kingdom of Kest before crossing the Rift and landing in what would become the first great Human settlement outside of Hycis--Cir, the City of Temples. The Caleadens then divided into three bloodlines: the Godly, who remained in Cir; the Esoteric, who founded Tarn, City of Towers; and the Worldly, who crossed the Blinding Plains to settle on the Tanosi Sea, eventually founding Tanos, City of Ships. The three bloodlines intermixed only rarely, usually to establish trade agreements or new hereditary lands. The Caleadens, a peaceful people, remained in this steadily flourishing state until the expanding, increasingly aggressive Voran Empire invaded around in 1770 AFR. The Godly Caleadens were nearly wiped off the face of Creacia during what would eventually be known as the Caleaden Crusades, when Cir was completely destroyed by Priestking Kairic the Cruel in 1777 AFR. The refugees found welcome homes in Tarn and Tanos amongst the Esoterics and Worldlys, but the site of Cir was abandoned forever, considered cursed.
Since the Magewives left the Voran Church in the ensuing Schism, the Eovoresh genetics have mixed with the Erudite. The majority of Caleadens therefore have lighter brown skin, amber to hazel eyes, and are slightly taller than most Eovoresh, though similarly built. Men and women tend to have dark to pitch black hair, often curly or wavy and only rarely straight. About a quarter are born as twins like all Erudites--much higher than any other ethnicity--but only about one in ten of those pairs have the same telepathic connections of the Zygos.
Preternaturally talented with arcana and spellcraft (especially the Esoterics), Caleadens are also talented linguists (especially the Worldlys, due to their homeland's central location between the Eovoresh, Kothic, and Shardan peoples. Their official language is Eovoresh, but they also maintain Caleadan as a secret arcane tongue.
