Huldrarim
Huldrarim are a subtype of Okkurim and are protectors of forests and other wildlands, but unlike Dryadrim, they do not take the form of the trees that they protect. Rather, they usually appear as young women, but with distinct features - the ears and tail of a fox. Though most believe it only a myth, it is said that the most beautiful and most powerful of the Huldrarim have nine fox tails, but that they can hide their ears and tails at will, appearing to be normal, though very beautiful, Human or sometimes Elvirim young woman.
Though they appear to Humans as young women, Huldrarim are not at all Human in thought or behavior. They are often seductive, even malevolent, and always unpredictable, even more so than Naiadrim, the most closely related species to them. They have significant magical powers of beguilement, illusion, and even thaumaturgy.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Huldrarim are shape shifters. In its basic form, a Huldrarim appears to be a fox; though, it is said that Elvirim are able to sense that they are not actually foxes. When they choose to, they can also appear as humanoid; typically, they appear to humans as very beautiful and voluptuous young women. Their thick hair is typically blond, reddish, or dark brown to black, and their skin color also varies.
Genetics and Reproduction
Huldrarim are immortal beings, so they do not reproduce or grow in the physical realm.
Ecology and Habitats
Behaviour
Huldrarim dwell in and are in some sense part of forests and woodlands throughout Derkomai. They are more social and tolerant of Human and Elvirim than Dryadrim and Naiadrim, but Huldrarim are volatile at best; dangerous, even murderous, at worst. Huldrarim are impulsive, sometimes mischievous, sometimes mercurial and temperamental. It is not uncommon for a Huldrarim to become attached to a Human or Elvirim it finds attractive and for it to be jealous of others it perceives as a rival.
Additional Information
Facial characteristics
When appearing as Human, Huldrarim have very beautiful, symmetric faces with large eyes and fine, but sharp features.
Average Intelligence
Whether or not Huldrarim have intelligence, as it is typically understood, is debatable. They do not share the goals or desires of humans. They do not create nor reproduce, though they often use sexual relationships to manipulate Humans and Elvirim. They were not born, nor do they die. They exist to love and protect their forests and woodlands. They deeply understand threats to their domains and can formulate plans and strategies using their abilities to protect them. They can converse with people, and will when they choose to. The stories about them say that conversing with a Huldrarim usually leaves people desiring to do anything to please the Huldrarim or make it/her happy.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Huldrarim are able to sense when their forest or woodland domains are being disturbed or damaged. They can sense the thoughts and emotions of animal life living in their domains and to some extent, direct the actions of those animals and fish that are living in them.
As a higher order of Okkurim than either Naiadrim or Dryadrim, they are able to direct and work with Naiadrim and Dryadrim to protect their domains.
Huldrarim are also able to beguile most humans, enchanting them with their beauty and empathic abilities. Few people are able to resist the charms of a Huldrarim; though it is said that Elvirim usually can. Those beguiled by a Huldrarim are completely under the Huldrarim's power and will do whatever it/she tells them to do. However, if the Huldrarim directs actions completely out of character, the beguilement may be broken.
