Earth

Geography

In the late 2090's, civilization on Earth began to use more power than could be produced, plunging vast swathes of the planet into darkness without electricity. Even with many new power plants being constructed, new means of power production being invented, and resources to power these new forms of generation being brought in from off world, the problem persisted. This eventually culminated in PANGEA's Light Harvest initiative, which consisted of constructing massive fields of solar panels over many thousands of square miles of land. These locations were of course chosen to be in the most efficient areas that had the lowest amounts of average cloud cover amoung other such factors that would effect how much light could be harvested, such as many areas of desert in Africa as well as some in Asia the Americas. Those living in these areas were either forcefully evicted, or plunged into darkness as the massive panels were simply built over their heads.

Natural Resources

While Earth's resources are not as plentiful as they were 300 years ago, much is still harvested from the cradle of humanity. While people once feared that terra would be destitute momentarily, deeper and deeper as well as more comprehensive mining and harvesting operations still bear fruit to the current day. To slow down the drain of resources however, many things have been switched from fossil fuels to solar and nuclear power, with many thousands of square miles of the planet being covered in either solar panels or nuclear reactors or dangerous disposal areas.
