Witchthorn

The Verdant King

Witchthorn is a Lesser God who serves under Silvox the Spring Child and a member of the Fiadmorai, the court of Archfey demigods. He is often referred to as his title, 'The Verdant King' or 'The Lord of Kryptgarden'. In the Fiadmorai, he holds the position of the Black King.
Witchthorn is consider the Lord of Kryptgarden, a vast network of old roots beneath the heart of the Faewild where the Court of Shadows holds court.  He is sometimes known as the Dark Heart of the Forest, representing the rage and anger of the woods that have been desecrated and mistreated.

Appearance

Witchthorn takes the shape of an enormous male whose skin has grown into a lichen covered hard bark. The top of his head is a series of antler-like branches arranged in a circle like a crown.  In many stories, he can change his size, but his appearance regularly stays the same.

Abilities

The Verdant King has the ability to form pacts with mortals known as Oath Bonds.  Unlike many of his lesser brethren, the Verdant Princes, Witchthorn is able to sustain a number of Bonds with mortals.  The Oath Bond is a magical binding on any bargain made with Witchthorn.  In many legends, Witchthorn will form these pacts with mortals in exchange for power or mercy, but should they break the bargain the mortal is dragged into the woods by living roots never to be seen again.  In other tales, an oathbreaker would become horribly ill and slowly transform into a plant-like being bound the serve the Court of Shadows for all time.
