Antagonists of the Pantheon
Although there is only one formally recognized Pantheon of Gods on the Dremoran continent, there are plenty of powerful, often immortal, beings that roam throughout the lands. Antagonists are a group – a secondary "pantheon" – of such powerful beings named as they tend to physically and/or ideologically oppose one of the Dremoran deities. Why these beings exist or how they are created or become what they are is, in most cases, unknown. They can range from monstrosities that are barely humanoid to so life-like and mortal that they can hardly be distinguished from the general populace. Interactions between the pantheon and the deities vary: from allies to mortal enemies. Some may be sequestered away while others roam the lands, but regardless, they exist in one way shape or form... no matter what.
The Current Known Antagonists
- The Greatwyrms of Caliban – Unique in that they are a group of four as opposed to a single entity or being. Each member encompasses a portion of Caliban's domains and tend to serve Caliban's general interests by defending and overseeing his lands, but they have frequently come into opposition with the God of Fate. The most notable being the Vengeance of Karma.
- Ismera, Coveter of Knowledge – It was Ismera who convinced Carmenthia to bury her Temple beneath the ground of Carmenthia so that the mortals could not so easily access it. The teal dragon covets knowledge, desiring it for themselves... but their loneliness perhaps has changed them. And perhaps Carmenthia's isolation has changed her. They are more allies and collaborators more than opposing forces.
- Artemilla Euseban – The leader of the Ascetics, the Euseban is a title given to one who believes and upholds that true pleasure can only be found through hard discipline and religious reflection.
- Omen, Horror of the Depths – Years ago, Varoona wove a Siren's Song powerful enough to force her long-term rival and co-destroyer of her city into a deep slumber in the dark recesses of her seas. Omen's ability to manipulate the creatures of the Sea proves that the Sea is incredibly vast with areas unknown... even to a Goddess.
- Akeldama – Once said to be the lover of Lark, she is now buried beneath the Sea of Moving Art in Lark'Hal. While the majority of the offerings are a gift to Lark, many are used to sate Akeldama and continue to keep her beneath the Dune Sea.
- Vad, the Parasitic Stalker – A cowardly and repulsive entity that hides within humanoid creatures and often lurks the lands of Ragna. Vad lacks honor and is quick to hide, retreat, or deploy other tactics that make Ragna's blood boil.
- The Harbringer – A being said to have the face of a man, but the body of an amalgamation of beasts. Though commonly believed to precede the God of the Hunt, Oshozi, the Harbringer is in constant pursuit: hunting the hunter. They leave rot and decay wherever they step.
The Cycle of Life and Death
In the religious views of Dremora, life and death are not opposing concepts, but are rather different points on a single cycle. They are not opposites or antagonistic forces and thus, the Goddesses of Life and Death cannot serve as one another's antagonist. However, it seems that both deities have stricken their antagonists from almost all records, though they do exist. Tel'Rhea, as the Mother Goddess, seems to believe that she is above such baser notions and thus wanted them removed. Perhaps the same reasoning follows for the Goddess of Death. Or perhaps it was for another reason.
