Session 99

General Summary

Keys & Grave Robbing... Without the Robbing Part

Declan dreamed with Therarask and expressed his concern about what is to come. He'll be visiting Therarask... for the Primus thing. Therarask expressed faith in Declan and at least some faith in the "glass cannon".
Having noticed and felt something odd about the fountain in the center square of Eredet, Rani brings Newt and Moira over to take a look. They both get the sensation of something being a bit off. Rani rubs her eye and coughs "please see invisibility" to Moira. There's some graffitti about "One hole" on th fountain, but nothing particularly out of the ordinary. The trio decides to head to the Mortuary.
After knocking at the door to the mortuary, a young woman answered: Did someone die? Dressed in simple gray robes, she appears to be an acolyte. Moira noted that her eyes are incredibly red... as if she had been crying. Inside, the mortuary isn't nearly as lavish as the Tower Citadel, per se, but it is certainly neater than the House of Death in Ah'Shal. As Newt began to ask after keys, he took note of a very nice glass case with a set of seven keys made of iron and silver carefully set within. The Acolyte, Xana, motioned for him to approach – it is on public display after all. In front of the keys, a scrap of paper has been delicately set up. Hey, what does this say? Xana reponded that no one has been able to decipher it. Rani cracks her knuckles. Moira winks at an invisible rat. It most definitely winked back.
"It should be my final desire that the keys to both my life of old and the one I have made for myself here be known only to Ah'Shal and buried with The One."
Rani asked if Xana was doing okay. The woman sighed and mentioned that her brother had recently passed. Rani, immediately honing in, asked if his name, was by chance, Xavier? You knew my brother? Rani explained that she didn't, but someone knew him and respected him tremendously: Angelos. Xana is unfamiliar with the name, but if it was related to his work, she most certainly wouldn't. She seemed pleased to know that at least someone held her brother in such high regard.
Turning the topic to Kiera Hallal, Xana did her best to answer. Kiera was most well known for he resting bitch face and saying little and getting a lot done. She founded the mortuary here and either founded or made plans for extensive graveyards to be put in place around the burgeoning city. Xana was happy to identify the largest of such graveyards, which contains multiple mausoleums, including one to some Grand Priests. When asked about her associations with The One, Xana surmised that it would most likely be through Kiera's connection with the Grand Priest rather than directly through her own actions.
As Rani pulls Moira aside to "powder their noses", Newt double fists sending stones. Atu, can you ask Ah'Shal if I should steal these keys? Atu is incredibly unhelpful. Oksha, can you ask Ah'Shal if I should steal these keys? Can you not ask to take them? Why would you steal them if you aren't sure? Meanwhile, in the bathroom, Rani pulls out the map. The map, now only featuring the symbol above Eredet, is faintly pulsing. Rani chose to keep the map discretely out. Newt then began to explain that he's on a super secret mission from their Goddess and he really needs those keys. Xana seemed perplexed. She is hesitant to to give up such an artifact for a vague mission. Rani and Moira returned: why not just ask Ah'Shal? Moira sent to Oksha again to ask Ah'Shal, while Newt prayed...
And the door opened to reveal Ikaris. The tiefling walked right up to the keys, took one look at the keys, and then slowly skimmed the writing. He then stood. No, this clearly can't be it, quite mundane. When asked if he could read Old Abyssal, Ikaris responded that he can, though slowly. Atu speaks it much better than he. After seeming to get a message in his head, Ikaris vanished. Newt was still determined to have the keys and did manage to convince Xana to give them to him... for the night. Before departing, Moira remarked about the invisible rats to which Xana seemed to smile. She seemed happy knowing they were there.
After wandering the grounds outside Eredet for a half hour, Declan and Ghilani managed to find Vendetta. The creature uncloaked itself before sluggishly dropping to the ground. It gave a slight huff when Ghilani gave it some scratches before it opened its maw to reveal the door, as always. Inside, Mistress Eight's shop is much the same as it was before. Following conversation, Ghilani knocked on the archway of the curtained doorway and then squeezed the stuffed sand seal until it made a noise. The cold voice of Eight summoned them in. Now standing, she clearly had arisen from a semi-organized heap of people on the floor, including Porysis.
As Ghilani updated her on occurences with Savant Three and Nine, he could tell that behind Eight's cold veneer was a level of child-llike fear. Without much fuss, she brought Ghilani a vial of her blood. Ghilani promised her that he was going to do what was right. Declan swore that he was devoted to this cause. He won't let his mother die. He won't let any more of them die. Nine will live. Eight seemed slightly reassured. When Ghilani asked if Eight wanted him to tell Primus anything, Eight responded: "Do what you must for all of us and for Savant Three". She then returned to her pile of comfort. Departing, the sluggish Vendetta vanished amidst the landscape once more.
As the trio moved back towards the fountain, the pulsing of the map increased. Reconvening in a small road off the main square, Rani explained what was going on with the map. Declan grabbed a tourist map and put it behind the actual map. As they moved to the square, Rani began muttering and reading off from the tourist map to sell the bit. Once near the fountain, the map suddenly went blank... and then revealed glowing text in Old Abyssal. When Rani glanced back up at the fountain, the Ouroboros had shifted. It's mouth was now angled foward, no longer poised to bite down on its own tail. Instead of commenting on it, Rani instead commented on how much Declan has grown: you don't even want to change the statue of Therarask!
Heading to the graveyard, Newt and Moira identified the oldest quadrant. Rani attempted to use Locate Object to find the keys, but didn't get a ping. Newt and Declan both converged on the same ornate mausoleum. It bore the symbols of The One: an ouroborous carved into the door and around the roof of the structure. Upon seeing the lock, Newt pulled out Thyron's key and immediately opened the door. The lock and the key both disintegrated into ash. The heavy doors than opened with a groan. Ghilani felt something magical dissipate in the air. Inside, the mausoleum is nice and well maintained. The oldest entry on the placards is that of Grand Priest Jameson, 105 YAR. Perhaps the 2nd or 3rd Grand Priest? Grand Priest Ihysult, however, is not buried here, it seemed.
Noting an approaching torchlight in the distance, the Deep End scurried off in the long loop through the graveyard. As they moved, Moira just happened to notice a set of text carved onto a simple Mausoleum: "Known only to Ah'Shal and Buried with The One." Normally lock picking this one, the doors swung open. This time, Ghilani and Declan both felt magic ripple. Oh, maybe THAT'S how they knew we were at the first one. Moving inside, this mausoleum is much simpler... though there is another door witha seven key engraving at the back. After quickly solving the posed riddle, Newt squeezed through the gap in the door. A mummfiied corpse rested within, holding pendant with seven keys: one baring the symbol of Ah'Shal. After carefully taking it, Newt thank the mummy and gave it a little pat pat before ducking back out. The Deep End vanished into the night. The grave robbers who took... nothing. Or at least nothing anyone else will notice.
Spurred on by the others, Ghilani prayed to Tel'Rhea about what he intends to do. Tel'Rhea's presence is still a bit thorny, but she did offer a response. Should I trust the fate of the continent and all of my children to you? Ghilani reassured her and the flowers on his staff bloomed in all the new and unknown colors. With Valdove updated and Lux requested, the Deep End rests.

The Sea of Crimson Red

In the morning, Lux is waiting on the boat. Sage offered two days of her patience as she settles down to meditate. Newt sneaks a pullet to her before dissipating into blood with the others. As before, Lux led everyone down the long, dilapitated hallway in the Compound of Blood. Ghilani asked Lux if they were nervous. Lux grinned. Why would I be? Are you? Why would you be? Ghilani then offered a hand... and Primus emerged.
Despite responding that yes, he's ready, Ghilani stalled and asked a series of questions. What happens to souls when a creature becomes bound to the Sea of Crimson Red? Even Primus is uncertain (though Moira gets the sense that they have suspicions). It is possible that the soul is completely shattered and destroyed or perhaps it is instead consumed and simple altered by blood. Per Ghilani's will, Primus will not harm the pantheon. Rani asked about the people – those that were responsible for the Purge. They are long dead, correct? Genocide is not on my to do list. With questions done, Primus cradled Ghilani's face.
Primus eyes flashed red before they began to bleed. Their entire form began to warp and shift, like fluid breaking free of a solid shell. Blood flooded over Ghilani and forced its way down his throat. And he froze. For a moment, Ghilani stood rigid and motionless. Declan felt a burning sensation course through him before he became incredibly conscious of his own heartbeat... and then of another heartbeat in the distance... in Caliban. Two additional heartbeats were present. One from Ghilani and another... not quite from where Lux was "standing". Declan immediately began to seek out Lux. And then Ghilani's head jerked. One of his hands contorted and blood began to drip.
The image of Lux moved forward towards Ghilani, beginning to chant in something old and archaic... summoning? Declan and Rani immediately focused on Lux's heartbeat that WASN'T coming from the image of Lux. Moira attempted to mind link with Ghilani and was barely able to pull back out of the otherworldly mind. Newt put a hand on Ghilani's shoulder, offering reassurance.
Meanwhile, in the Sea of Crimson Red, a shape of blood emerged in front of Ghilani, sudden but without threat. For a moment, the vaguely humanoid shape lingered before the blood shifted and solidified, sloughing off to reveal a familiar, albeit younger face.
Oh, Ghilani, look at you. My darling boy.
Ghilani hugged his mom as she welcomed him to the Sea of Crimson Red. After talking for a bit, Marethari asked if Ghilani planned to return. When Ghilani affirmed that he did, Marethari promised to aid him. If you wish to expel the Being of Blood, know that I will do all I can to help you. Even if the Sea may dry, I will always love you. If you wish to choose your namesake, then I know you will find a way to succeed. You said it yourself did you not? Can the pantheon of gods and the pantheon of blood not coexist? Does that not apply to you and Primus?
Back in the compound, Primus wrests control of the new body, rolling their shoulders back and investigating their new limbs. Red stitches and red markings now visible.
Thank you, for protecting my Vessel until this moment. I can feel that my patience and efforts were rewarded. This form is stronger than it was two decades ago.   Do not fear. I have not destroyed Ghilani entirely. He has been sent to the Sea of Crimson Red. There, he is with his mother. For eternity.
Rani was quick to express her anger. This is NOT what you discussed with Ghilani. Primus assured Rani that Ghilani never asked if he would die. Merely that it would be analogous. It is. Do not make an enemy of me. You are playing a game and the gamemaster the one you should be far more concerned about. Rani asserted that Primus should at least speak to Ghilani on the matter. Primus sighed and, after issuing a general order to Lux, seemed to meditate slightly. Declan used the Rose of Devotion, reaching out to Ghilani. Moira followed, cutting her hand and declaring that: "they may not be of the same blood, but the prison buddy bond goes deep". And from the Sea of Crimson Red, Ghilani found a tether leading back to a familiar place. As he filled the Sea with flowers, Marethari smiled: "I am pleased that the Mother Goddess blessed you."
Primus hunched with sudden discomfort as Ghilani compressed and moved Primus to the very edge of the tether. Declan panicked as he felt the connection to Six border on precarious. Primus, with frustration and rage, declared that this is the way things must be. I MUST protect my people. Blood witches DIED for you. There is too much of a risk should you remain and follow your own whims. I have not forgotten what happened to Ancient Two. What The One did. Not again. This is not the first world I have seen, but I swear it shall be my last. Ghilani assured Primus that this is something they can do together. Declan reaffirmed his devotion to the blood witch cause. I will keep Ghilani safe, for my future, for Six, and all of the blood witches. Rani stated that it is the nature of children to become stronger than their parents. And you have to let them.
After another moment, Primus' and Ghilani merged, tethering solidified – though still weak and new. Ghilani became acutely aware of all the blood witches and of Declan and of Lux. He immediately takes the opportunity to send joy through the newly established blood hive mind. All of the blood witches – save Savant Three – issue a response. Six also takes a moment to yell in Declan's mind. SO IT IS DONE, MY DUMB STUPID IDIOT BOY! Declan also very clearly feels the sensation of something shattering. Whether or not it has dissapeared or been absorbed, it is hard to say... but something broke. Something became permanent. Lux stepped forward and, to Ghilani, I suppose I am your blood witch now.
Speaking with Lux, the High Lord is happy to report on your affairs to the Council (discretely, of course). In regards to rumors, High Lord Ivan will be returning to Eredet – a great opportunity for him to pester the Oshiv'Ran rep. Ironborn has remained in Nacheevi, tinkering and all that. High Lord Emir has remained. In regards to rumors and happenings, it seems the Queen's brother hasn't been seen in some time. He was a raving lunatic, it seems, so perhaps he finally bit the dust, so to speak. And the royal families are due to have some sort of spectacle in the near future. I'm sure that Valdove patron of yours would weasel you into something. And the Grand Priest is far to happy as of late for my liking. Lux seemed interested in learning more about Valdove. He is supposedly a hard nut to crack... besides what happened to his two wives, that is.
Declan ducked out to head into the mists. Upon arriving, he initially dodged Artemilla before sighing and doubling back. So, hey, made a decision for both of us, congratulations we're living forever (potentially)! Artemilla seemed unconcerned. Artemilla has been at piece with themselves and that is truly what matters. If you require therapy, if they can handle Therarask, Declan will be nothing. Declan than ran up to Therarask. Are you okay? Feeling any different? It happened... pretty sure I don't have a soul. Therarask looked themselves over... I'm just as gorgeous as always so everything is in order. Declan promised to spend the day and night, though mentioned he still had things to take care of... but hey you have me for eternity now! Ugh, but you'll always have things to do for eternity. Provided at least 69% of your time is on me, I supposed I can get over it.
The rest of the Deep End traveled to Tel'Rhea and were taken aback that they were permitted into the House of Life (albeit reluctantly). Ghilani presented himself as proof of well placed trust. Tel'Rhea seemed to accept it. Perhaps she has been... remiss. She is not the only one to have lost. If Ghilani has proven that coexistence can occur... perhaps she can extend a small portion of trust to Moira as well. To Newt, the Mother Goddess hopes he will meet and exceed expectations. Ah'Shal deserves more than a bounty hunter and more than anything Tel'Rhea ever gave her. Rani asked about the map and the key. Tel'Rhea suspects that if it was given to a Council of Eredet member, that it would be in Eredet. Perhaps the nature sanctuary there? Rani then asked if there is anything Tel'Rhea would have them ask of The One. Ask them why. Before departing, Ghilani stepped forward and placed the vial into Tel'Rhea's hand. I will bring him back. Tel'Rhea still seemed doubtful, but promised to trust Ghilani once more.
Time to split up and vibe for a bit now.

Message from the Map

“In your pilgrimage, but One Temple remains. Offer a piece of life, death, day, or night. One part sacrificed to meet the whole.   But an offering of the part is worthless, if one does not possess the key, given by they who make us whole.”

The Final Emergence of Primus

As Primus emerges from the vat of blood, their presence is almost smothering, completely pervasive as it quickly fills the entire rom. From the blood, their humanoid form appears: large, clawed hands rest lethargically at their sides. Their clawed fingers uncurling partially as the blood trails down their arms and drips onto the floor. Primus smiles and their head tilts to the side, metallic jewelry creating a discordant chime that echoes throughout the space. The walls behind them almost seem to drift and sway... like the waves and tides upon a crimson sea.
"It is time, dear. Are you prepared to tether a Greater Deity to this world?

The Sea of Crimson Red

There is silence. There is peace. Everything feels warm, protective, safe. Yet slowly, the comforting darkness gives way to a deep red. The stillness becomes a gentle ebb and flow, like tides in a thick liquid. The smell of iron becomes intense. Breaking the surface, sight and senses clear. Standing in knee-high blood, the Sea of Crimson Red stretches as far as one can see. Where the horizon would be, swirls of red and crimson cosmos take over, creating a familiar sky... though only in shades of blood.
Throughout the vast expanse, vague shapes composed of blood rise and fall, drift and swim. Their patterns are random at first, but then some of the shapes linger near another before drifting apart again. There are differentiating features to them, vague and hard to notice... but they are there, nontheless.
