Sun'Sotét

Located in a little ways into the Anwar-Dai, the village of Sun’Sotét features neat rows of wooden lodges clustered around larger, reinforced buildings of a mixture of stone and wood with more ornate sloping roofs. In the winter, almost all the buildings are covered in snow, but colorful roof tiles peak out from the larger buildings. While much of the village is a mixture of browns from the various woods of the forests along the mountains, the larger buildings feature painted walls in warm tones with splashes of sky blue and white.

While the village itself is located on a gentle slope of the Anwar-Dai, it is not so far in that the harshness of the blistering northeast mountains pose a significant risk. Thankfully, it has managed to take advantage of the mountains’ bounty. Paths from the village lead to an abundant lumber industry, the Villám mines a little further up the mountain, and to the fishing district where local fishermen need only walk a little ways away from their home to get to the frozen lake where they crack holes in the ice through which to fish.

Throughout the village, there are large wooden beams that project over the city. Every now and then, one may be lucky to see an aarakocra or other avian race land, walk down the beam, and enter the corresponding building. While there are very few avian races that call Sun’Sotét home (or even visit, for that matter), these relics of the past have been retained in the perhaps vain hope that their avian companions may return to the town again to trade, at the very least. Otherwise, the streets are filled with a variety of people, most of whom are simple folk making modest livings.

The Great Lodge

The largest building in the village appears to be a nice, newer-looking two-story hunting lodge covered in snow. A relic of true Elian culture, the Great Lodge is incredibly open on the inside, practically composed of one massive room with a few, private rooms off to the side. Originally, it was a community center. Although it still serves that function, it now also doubles as the government building for the village. Here, the Mayor and his official oversee the day-to-day affairs of the village. The interior is warm and inviting, lined with furs and woven banners bearing a crest of a sun above a lake. A large chair has been constructed on a slightly raised platform at one end of the large central room.

The Villám Mines

The entrance to the mine is visible from the main town, especially at night where the warm glow of torchlight can be seen flickering in the distance. The entrance to the mine is located a little ways up the mountain, but within a relatively easy walking distance for the locals. A temporary set of “doors” has been set up along the entrance of the mine in an effort to ward against the cold of winter. Very little is arranged outside of the mines with the exception of some large logs – cut from the nearby forest – and a few piles of stacked crates and barrels, covered by tarps and secured by ropes and cables.

What's the Deal with Villám?

The locals of Sun'Sotét can easily be overheard discussing the latest news: stolen shipments of Villám and other activity around the mines. Some seem completely disgruntled about the whole affair – When will the Mayor finally do something? Others have focused on the return of the avian Elians from Sun's First Grace. It is the missing Villám that brought them and seems to keep them here. What is better for the town? The reopening of relationships and trade with Sun's First Grace? Or the lucrative sales to be made from continuing to mine Villám?
