The Vault

The Vault is both a place and an organization. Founded early in the modern era, the physical Vault is a massive, diamond-shaped station deep within in null space. An outer layer of constantly shifting battle platforms and shield arrays form an almost impenetrable fortification, while the insides of the station are made up of a web of interconnected modules. Each module houses up to thirty "artifacts" deposited within the Vault for safekeeping.   The Vault organization is a neutral party, meant to secure dangerous or potentially-dangerous technologies and relics. Nominally aligned with the Civil Concordance, in whose territory the station currently resides, the Vault is considered almost legendary by most of the population of the galaxy.   The organization funds itself through a variety of means: exploitation of non-or-less dangerous technologies that make their way within, admittance fees for credentialed academic researchers, and endowments from wealthy patrons. The funds generated are used to continually improve the Vault's defenses, as well as procure cutting edge technology to further their mission.   The organization is overseen by The Curator, an individual elected to the position every ten years by Vault Keepers and Archivists. Keepers function as the overall guardians of the Vault, responsible for its defense. Archivists are primarily researchers within the Vault, responsible each for maintaining - and if, necessary, defending - a thirty-item "gallery" of items within.   While allies routinely bring bizarre artifacts to deposit in the Vault, specialized teams are sent out to hunt down and secure specific artifacts. These units, known as 'Trauma Teams' due to their high-casualties and tradition of every team member being a trained medic, search the galaxy for the unusual and dangerous. Analysts are the field equivalent of an Archivist, researching and discovering these artifacts. Watchers serve as security, defending the Analysts and artifacts from creatures, pirates, enemy armies, and whatever else comes their way.   Vault trooper armor and weapons is highly valued on the black market, thanks to its excellent quality and unique designs. There's plenty of it to go around; the high-casualty rate amongst Trauma Team members has left a plethora of discarded equipment scattered all over.         DTG Figures
