The realms hold far too many aspects to be controlled by only the Nine. The true number of minor deities is a topic of scholarly debate; their power waxes and wanes far more quickly and severely than that of the major deities. Some came forth out of the Nothingness, others were wrought by The First War, intentionally or otherwise. A few minor gods were once mortals, and were raised to godhood as a result of their achievements. Though inferior by comparison to the major deities, a minor god nonetheless commands power over some aspect of reality. As a civilisation rises, the gods more favoured by its citizens (normally chosen by the rulers) grow to new strengths, but as a society collapses so too does worship, and a god may fade into the mists of time. The most fearsome and strong-willed mortals seek to parley with the gods, or even destroy them and take their place. The task is formidable, but not impossible - especially if the god in question is made weak by a lack of contemporary worship.
