Runic Materials
Runic materials are materials with the ability to hold large amounts of magical energy within them. They are said to be structured differently from other materials and this unique structure enables the weaving of magical energy into their core easier and less likely to destroy the material or break the spell.
The study of runic materials began during the Adriphite War upon the discovery of black silver in the Oblivion Mountains. When the wizards discovered they could cast more, stronger spells on this material and it would last much longer without being destroyed, they began offering extremely high prices to obtain it. Dwarves from Slog and even the Snow-top Mountains came along with Nitts, Men and others to mine for the new-found black metal.
Later many more materials were discovered and began being used by wizards everywhere but especially in Amatrio. These wizards split the selection of runic materials into three tiers based on the amount of power runes in each form of magic each material could withstand.
Tier 1: Three runes in at least one form.
Tier 2: Four runes in at least one form
Tier 3: Five runes in at least one form
Currently known runic materials include:
Entwood
Black Silver
Greyearth
