Gearfleet
Gearfleet is the name for most sailing ships that have been modified with gears to increse efficiency. The gearfleets look much like old fashioned sailing ships, but looking closer one can see large gears that pull the sails, clockwork pieces that raise and lower the anchor, and even turn propellers that move the ship from time to time when there is little or no wind. These aren't very common, as many folk prefer airship travel, but to the fisher folk of Crystal Lake these are their lively hood. There are still some ships without gearworks out there, they are just antiques at this point.
Power Generation
Coal (steam) / wind
Propulsion
Steam fed wheels and propellers on some models
Dwarven Ironships
This is a design based on the sailing ships crossed with the Geartank . The dwarves thought that if they could make a ship with that much armor that it would be formidable on the waves as well as land. They started with a Gearwheel design and sealed the bottom like a hull, replaced the wheels in the back with bigger wheels, and a water tight compartment that can house coal and a storage compartment for 200 lbs of coal in some of the larger models. The steam driven clockwork gears propel the vehicle across the land at very slow speed, and when they hit water, a lever switches the gears to flatten the large rungs on the wheels, spinning them and speeding them across the water. Most forges can hold enough coal for a long trip, with larger models holding enough for an extended sail.
