The first known Age, which started with the creation of the world and ended with the defeat of The Dark One. It is said, that when this plane of existance was created, gods and goddesses walked the earth, shaping it to their liking, creating life, taking an active part in the life of mortals.
In a battle that no doubt wrought great destruction, the Dark One was defeated for the first time.
The Second Age, also known as the Age of Discovery.
In the wake of the defeat of The Dark One, science and trade are thriving. Large cities are built and people live long and healthy lives.
Bellfort was built during the prosperous second Age and has withstood the passing of time - as well as countless war-plagued centuries - better than most other settlements. Some of the defenses that were built in the Age of Discovery are keeping the city safe to this day.
With people being able to draw ever-deeper on the Ley-Lines and becoming inately more powerful. The child mortality rate started skyrocketing, when new-born children started showing strong magical capabilities they had no control over, leading them to draw more magical energy from the Ley-Lines than they could handle. Eventually, the Tearing and Ley-Line Crystals were used to combat this issue.
Starharbor was founded in the Age of Discovery, serving a vital role as a port. Since the Age of Dread, Starharbor has been governed by the Dawncrest family, which suffered great losses in the fights against The Dark One.
Riverkeep was founded at the height of the Age of Discovery. It started as a small town with a couple of hundred inhabitants near the Greybank River.
The third Age, often referred to as The Age of Dread, nearly marked the end of the known world.
After the prosperous second Age, The Age of Discovery, The Dark One rose again, stronger than before. With it came plagues and food shortages, turning the people against one another. Many of the brilliant inventions of the second Age were lost or destroyed in the wars of this Age.
The Ancient Summit is the name of the tallest mountain of the mountain range in north Cadalyn. This is where the Al-Karesh, a dwarven tribe of old, took shelter in the war-plagued years of The Age of Dread. What was meant as a temporary shelter, quickly turned into their forever home.
After many failed experiments, in the year 402 the scientists and engineers managed to create the Warforged, tall, artificial humanoids, made from wood and metal with a Ley-Line Crystal as their source of power. However, what was meant to be an animated construct could feel pain and emotion, and form independent thoughts.
In the year 404, the Warforged banded together, rebelling against their creators. This lead to a war on two fronts for the people living on Krom and almost lead to the fall of the continent. Although the Warforged fought against the people of Krom, they focused their efforts against their creators and rarely attacked innocent bystanders and citizens.
After countless casualties on both sides, both parties agreed to a ceasefire in order to negotiate a peace treaty. Denton Shilling, an engineer who had helped creating the Warforged, was one of the driving forces on Kromian side for negotiating the treaty.
After two months of negotiations, the peace treaty came into force. With it, Warforged were recognized as a species and granted rights. In return for becoming citizens, many agreed to join the fight against the Dark One and protect their new home. Additionally, the creation of sapient beings was deemed unethical and the research on the creation of the Warforged was destroyed.
Ashbury was established late in the Age of Dread on one of the many battlefields of this Age. There are signs that there might have been a settlement in this location before. However, it got razed so thoroughly it is impossible to tell who lived there before. Ashbury started as a small fishing settlement and, over the years, grew into one of the biggest cities on the continent.
Part of a powerful Ley-Line once ran through the part of Kysa that is now known as the Wasteland and the Chasm. However, the Ley-Line got disrupted during The Age of Dread, causing a devastating explosion and wreaking havoc on the land.
With the help of the Goddess Aherin, Thea Dawncrest dealt a killing blow to the Dark One, defeating them for a second time.
The Dark One's defeat unleashed a huge wave of magical energy, shattering Krom and killing much of the life on the continent.
The Age of Solitude was the Fourth Age of our world.
Still reeling from the destruction that came with the war against The Dark One, people are keeping to themselves, trying to stay alive and recover from the losses. People are extremely distrusting of one another, thinking everyone an enemy and potential minion of The Dark One.
Although Denton Shilling was loath to admit it, he sought a way to create soldiers without feelings, so no more sentient creatures would have to suffer the pains of war. Instead, he and his fellow engineers ended up creating a whole new sentient species. After the war had ended with his home continent destroyed, he spent the remainder of his life in Bellfort. There he founded the Shilling Sanctuary for Warforged as repentance.
Dhon Az'dugh was established shortly after The Age of Dread and is built on top of one of the many ancient ruins littering the desert.
The Dwarven Tribe of An-Karesh make their home in the mountains of the north-easternmost island of Cadalyn. They split from the Al-Karesh tribe of the Ancient Summit during The Age of Solitude in the year 524, because they disagreed with opening up the gates to non-dwarves. They emigrated to the unnamed Island and have since stayed a close-knit society unwelcoming of strangers.
The Fifth Age is known as The Age of Illusions.
Through the generations, people start forgetting the near catastrophe of The Age of Dread, rebuilding trade and cities, choosing to live in blissful ignorance. Until the clouds of war started gathering once again, bringing forth The Age of Storms with them.
Going by the scarce records, it is believed that the City was first established in The Age of Illusions. The city was best known for the many spices which were traded there as well as their very own cactus Wine
The Sixth Age is now known as the Age of Storms.
Storms gather, bringing war and destruction in their wake. Long-standing allies turn on each other, crime rates are constantly rising, sickness and decay are spreading at an alarming rate.
Whispers are growing more frequent that The Dark One has risen once again.
One of the two shards of the legnedary weapon Dawnbringer, Bane of the Undead, that are in the possession of the Dawncrest Family, was reported stolen. One of the house guards reported a small, vaguely humanoid creature making off with the shard in the dead of night. The guard was unable to apprehend the nimble thief.
When confronted with the combined armies of the Ebean nations, shortly before the fighting began, the Necromancer cast a spell, forcing every humanoid creature that dies to raise as in undead in the Necromancer's service within 72 hours of dying.
As a result of the countless wars of The Age of Storms, sickness and decay are spreading at an alarming rate. A Necromancer Tyrant has risen, terrorizing the lands and seeking their destruction. In the quaint village of Moorbook, among other places, The Resistance is stirring...
After suffering great losses in the skirmishes against the armies of the Necromancer Tyrant, some remanents of the people fighting in Cadalyn retreated to regroup. They built a small village at the foot of the Ancient Summit.
During the Summer Solstice celebrations, which coincides with the twin's birthday, the late Queen of Edune was assassinated. This left the two freshly turned 16-year old twins in power.
The late Queen's brother stages a coup, arguing that the twins are too young to rule the continent. He proposed that he, as the Queen's oldest living relative, should rule instead. While he was unable to completely usurp the twins, he managed to gain control of the The Frostbreath Highlands, which are vital for the city's fur trade and foot situation. The continent is now tethering on the edge of civil war and the city guard has a difficult time containing the fights breaking out between the different factions inside of the city.
