River
(a.k.a. River)
A native of Cyre born during the Last War, River is a Kalashtar bard looking to find a new way forward after losing his home, family, and community during the cataclysmic Mourning. Living the nomadic life of a traveling performer ever since, fate lead him to cross paths with Jasper, Sarasa, Branks, and Brom, the four of them becoming traveling companions and quickly building a reputation as capable and daring adventurers.
As a Kalashtar, River's soul is bound to a rebel Quori spirit from Dal Quor: the Plane of Dreams. Every member of River's lineage is also tied to this Quori, who would have shared its time and power between all of them... were they still alive. Every other Kalashtar tied to [QUORI NAME] perished in the Mourning, and should River also die, the spirit would die with him, its essence siphoned back to Dal Quor to be reborn following the Dreaming Dark's evil designs. River knows this, and is keenly aware of the weight the Mourning suddenly dropped on his shoulders. Should he die, his Quori dies with him, and a fundamental battle for the future of the world gets just a little bit harder. River is always on the lookout for an opportunity to sire an heir to ease some of the burden on his shoulders.
River lives his life in a way many other Kalashtar would consider counter to their core beliefs. He is flirty, flippant, and flighty; a far cry from the stoic and spiritual monastic types typically seen among Kalashtar communities. River, however, is deeply committed to his goals, shielding his true intentions behind a playboy's mask. Of particular note is his drive to discover the truth behind the Mourning, although it might be more accurate to say he wants to prevent anyone else from discovering the truth behind it. River is driven to making sure the tragedy of the Mourning never happens again, and we have not yet seen the limits of his convictions in the pursuit of this goal.
