Cloverville
A small superstitious village located on the southern bank of the Drondurlin River in the Cloverwood. It was originally built around a temple to Kelemvor, god of death, giving the entire place a macabre atmosphere. The inhabitants of the town believe the forest surrounding their home is filled with violent spirits who wish to do them harm, and multiple travelers moving through the area have backed up that statement. Unfortunately, whenever an official of House Battleborn begrudely comes down to check things out, paranormal activity ceases until they leave. This has driven the citizens of Cloverville to hire multiple adventuring parties and priests of multiple different gods to try to get rid of the ghosts, though even when defeated, they seem to re-appear in a couple of weeks or so. Some sages theorize that a permanent portal to the Shadowfell exists somewhere within the Cloverwood, though that is all speculation.
Demographics
Like most villages in the Ruthorian Empire, Cloverville is mostly made up of humans and halflings. It also has a particularly high population of gnomes who were intrigued by the Cloverwood's haunted nature and decided to settle down. A large amount of Cloverville's residents enjoy macabre aesthetics, and decorate the village accordingly.
Government
Cloverville is managed by Pekka Ashleah Butterlocke from the somewhat nearby village of Warlington. It in in the territory of House Battleborn.
Defences
Soldiers of House Battleborn who live in the area are often posted as the guards of Cloverville, though a few residents also take up arms to become actual village protectors. Being a guard of Cloverville is especially taxing for what it is, as citizens often refuse to leave the boundaries of town without an escort, believing that without the protection of the Cloverville Temple they could invoke the ire of violent spirits.
The reality of the village's protection from the ghosts lies under the Cloverville Temple, where a secret temple to Shar, goddess of darkness, is located. Shar warship is banned in the Empire, but the villagers fear that their offerings to the Dark Lady are the only thing keeping the shadows at bay.
Industry & Trade
Cloverville has a mediocre wax and candlemaking business that barely keeps the village afloat via exportation, though some question where the materials to make the wax come from.
