Hunters
What does it mean to be a hunter? A simple question really, what does it mean to be a hunter? Relentless killer, ruthless savage, disgusting outsider, citizen wishing to protect their home and loved ones. These are but a few of the answers you would get from asking Barovian's what it means to be a hunter. For the name, hunter, it is simply a colloquial term given to the individuals who take on the mantle of hunting beasts through special means. The range of individuals that sign up to be hunters is immense. You have citizens who want to protect their homes, murderers and thieves being forced into servitude, trained killers looking to make a quick gold, outsiders seeking to receive Blood, and blood-drunk fools who have lost all semblance of humanity. These are but a few of the tragic stories of those who take up the mantle of Hunter. Hunters are often the first to perish, but have become a invaluable contribution to the survival of Barovia and its denizens, and successful hunters will cut through hundreds of beasts throughout their life before succumbing to the hunt.
There are several notable sects, referred to as Hunter Workshops, that hunters can obtain weapons, armors, and items from to help augment their abilities and performance during hunts. While these workshops do organize some hunters, especially those that align with the philosophies of the workshop, most hunters operate without pledging to one specific organization, instead pledging to the defense of the people of Barovia. There is an exception to those who pledge themselves to the Blood Church, however.
