Castle Kilgrave
Castle Kilgrave was a castle north of Axrid, and was the location of Mystras assassination at the hands of Cyric and Shar. After the Time of Absent Magic the castle become a ruin, though a small settlement surrounding it has formed. The only remnants of the castles once existence is the extensive network of ruins below the castles foundation.
Purpose / Function
Castle Kilgrave was originally built to serve as a base of power for Axonland along the banks of the Tiza Lake as a means of exerting its influence on the Chundan kingdoms surrounding the lake. This was largely a failed endeavor however, and is seen as partially one of the reasons for the founding of the Eveloth League.
Alterations
The area around the castle has turned into a small settlement of sorts, who found the few foundations that existed to be a safe refuge from the threat-infested plains south of the Alsassenland.
History
Prior to the founding of the Eveloth League, Axonland was the largest state throughout Kasetias southeast. The then leader ordered the construction of Kilgrave next to Tiza Lake in demonstration to the Chundan kingdoms of their growing influence. This simple act was seen as overly hostile by the Nosterian and Fleschtian clans to the west, who sent raiding parties to stifle the flow of supplies into the castle, effectively cutting it off from Axonland proper. The raids would slow, but the humiliation was strong and Kilgrave was abandoned by its creators in 363.
The castle was home to numerous groups of foul creatures, both humanoid and non until the events of the Mortalbound Period, whereby Cyric and Shar murdered Mystra in the lower dungeons and brought about the Time of Absent Magic.
