Eris
A Town of Misery and Misfortune, Eris has dealt with tragedy after tragedy over the years, but the people persist. Either out of stubbornness, nihilism, or hope.
Located on the Western Coast of Atalanta, it's a hub for fishing expeditions along with adventures to the outside world, which have all failed thus far.
The town itself is home to several key locations, including the Temple of the Highest Peak, a monastic order, The Atalantan Museum, and The Gothica University for Wizardry and Arcane Talent.
Demographics
Most of the citizens of Eris are of Elven descent in some form or another, but there are also a large amount of Halflings and Kenku throughout the city as well.
Government
Like all territories in Atalanta, Eris is helmed by a Senator, Elected once every 8 years, who has a City Council underneath them to run the infrastructure of the town. The Senator is also the one who presents cases to the Atalantan Senate in Helen for the sake of the city.
Defences
The city itself is walled off, both the outskirts and a secondary inner wall outside of The Gothica Manor, which serves as the center of town. Alongside that, there is a strong regiment of City Guards and Atalantan Knights present within the town ready to defend it.
Industry & Trade
The Eris Fish Market is the most profitable aspect of the town. Following that, their Arcane University is prided as being the best in Atalanta, even greater than the University of Magical Improvement in Paris. There's also a good amount of Lumber trade with the city, and Necromancers along with any Clerics connected with the notion of death often flock to the city.
Infrastructure
Eris has a comprehensive, if not a bit archaic, plumbing system, and no electricity but many gas powered utilities, alongside the typical magical energy lines.
Assets
Eris is mostly a fisherman's town, and the city has plenty of Atalantas most prized seafood, along with a decent lumber industry in smaller populated parts of the territory. Alchemists are also well aware that the Swamps of End in Eris have some of the best herbs and fungi for Poisons and Antitoxins alike.
Guilds and Factions
There are many factions at play in Eris. You have The Gothica Family and their University, The Insith Family, who corner the Fish market, The Xeneon Family in the Monastery, and The Billows who run the Lumber Trade. All of them are at odds and ends with each other for various reasons, but it's fairly balanced to an ordinary citizen.
Alongside that, Eris has an Alchemist Guilds Chapter, as well as a local Mercenary Guild in the form of The Midnight Ravens, the 10th highest rated Mercenary Guild.
History
Eris hasn't always had a notable past. It was founded by fishermen who wanted a secure settlement as they fished the sea's, and evolved into a prosperous town as more were attracted to the idea. It's four main families have each descended from those original settlers, whose lives and businesses have evolved since then.
But none of that is what many know Eris for.
Eris is known for the Five Great Disasters it has been through.
The first Disaster was a dreadful Plague, that deteriorated flesh and bone into naught but dust.
The second Disaster was a mighty Earthquake, that buried much of the original town.
The third Disaster was a bloody Massacre, when the factions of the town could not quell their rage.
The fourth Disaster was a mysterious Fog, which made citizens disappear into thin air.
The fifth Disaster was a simple War, when The Border Wars took the younger generations far too soon.
Each time the city has survived, but many are left scarred and pessimistic from the volley of misfortune. Nonetheless, they persist. Either through Stubbornness, Honor, or pure Spite.
Tourism
Eris is not a cheerful place, but there are just as many dour and bleak souls in Edda that see it as an Un-Holy Holy Land. Additionally, the Magical University and Alchemist Quarter draw in a large amount of Magical Practitioners who are not already drawn in by the high amount of Necrotic Power and the unique Leylines of the area.
Architecture
The buildings in Eris are either made of Stone, Wood, or dark Iron, and all of it is blocked and jagged, giving off an intricate but intimidating aura. Architecture is actually a passion around the area, especially in the Academy, so even the smallest buildings fit the environments Aesthetic.
Geography
The city itself is located on a small plain, and is a center point of three different biomes. To it's Southern half is The Shieldwood Forests, to it's north is The Hags Swamps, and to it's west is the Vast Ocean of Arcanoterra, and Eris' Black Sand Beach.
Natural Resources
Eris sits on a large deposit of marble, which goes to making many of the towns structures and appliances. Outside the city limits, one can find lumber, plant life, and fauna, and obviously it's proximity to the ocean means Eris has a large amount of (filtered) water, and Fish.
