The Swamp of Hags
Stretching across the territories of Eris, Nyx, and Helen in Atalanta, The Swamp of Hags is a mysterious and dangerous stretch of land, home to any number of Witches, Hags, and many horrific creatures, both from the darker ends of The Feywild and man-made Abominations. But, if you're willing to brave those horrors, you'll find a wealth of resources at your disposal, and unique Leylines as well.
Geography
The Swamps are mostly flatland, sometimes with higher mounds and some low pits, that are made marshes by the flooding of the main River that weaves through the area. The tree's that cover the swamp from the air are tall and spindly, with interlocking branches playing nest to many birds, especially Corvids, in the area.
Fauna & Flora
The Swamp of Hags contains typical flora and fauna found in the rest of Atalanta, but where it's unique is that many of these creatures have been effected by the magical essence of the land, especially if they've been around for multiple generations. This creates unique and mysterious creatures, and potent and sought-after ingredients.
History
Not much is known about the swamp to the general public, but those who practice the rare Witch Magic, along with Fey related beings, know that the Swamp used to be a bustling hub of Witchcraft. But, after local citizens took offense to the Witches unique ability over Curses, scorned public leaders took to decimating the Swamps.
76% of the population in that area was killed, imprisoned, or fled to other parts of Edda. Those who stayed went into hiding, and worked to erect defenses in the Swamps to prevent it from happening ever again, giving the Swamp of Hags its mysterious effects it has today.
Tourism
Many who travel through the Swamp do so quickly, as the wish to avoid the dangers of the Hags within, but many others throw themselves right into that supposed danger, to find the wealth of magical plant life that the area is most well known for.
