Éam
"You know, I think words hold much more fantastic power than has ever been understood. I think, if we but try, we can use them not only to talk, but to touch. To inspire. To frighten. And I think that, once we're gone, they just may be all that's left of us."Éam
Éam, the Wordsmith, is the god of speech, writing, and language. He was fascinated by the work of both Kress and his father Ebium, but was not entirely satisfied with either one on its own. He felt they could be combined in many ways that could be very powerful, and so, after painstakingly mastering the written word, he began to produce theses, proofs, contracts, essays, anything that would help him to further understand how language could work to change minds. He collaborated with Rōz-El to create works that would inspire people to action, and with Miranelle to inspire people to hope. He was the first to use writing as a tool to influence people, the first to include the reader within what he wrote. He was additionally the first to attempt to catalogue and study the different rapidly developing languages. He traveled beyond Talazic, studying the tongues of the elves and gnomes and dragons alike, all the while producing works in the languages he was learning and teaching a great many individuals to read and write. Éam is generally portrayed as an elf, though he is notably the only Meydra who is said to have occasionally taken the form of a half-elf, which has been suggested to be a nod to his parentage, considering his mother is the legendary source of elfkind. He is normally shown with pale green skin and hair, holding an open book and wearing a wide-brimmed hat.
Relationships
Éam's parents were Ebium and Celeyra, and his brother, with whom he did not particularly get along, was Noveakrin. He was, for a time, involved with Shard, whom he initially came to seeking advice on how to persuade effectively. He had two wives, the first a human named Krása who died after thirty years of marriage and who gave him three sons, the Simrae Zhodzhai, Kliem, and Sabdaharu; and the second an elf named Uroda who gave him two daughters, the Simrae Jenatha and Sariel.
Followers
Éam has many clerics and followers among people such as scholars, linguists, poets, and anthropologists, and in some regions is almost as popular among bards as Kress is.
