A Brief Explanation of Each Class

Artificer

Inventors, mechanics, and engineers who harness magic into self-sufficient loops which they store inside of objects. Through the extra steps their magic has to take by relying on tools, it is even able to bypass some of the limitations faced by wizards and achieve healing magic, though in other ways it is also much more limited.   True artificers are still rare in Ekaia and there are no great academies dedicated to the field.

Barbarian

Fierce warriors led by intense, primal emotion. They are defined by their rage, which can come from a variety of sources, and goes beyond mundane anger, giving them tremendous strength and physical endurance. They are often spiritual people who enter into their rages for a specific purpose. Barbarians rarely settle successfully into conventional society without assimilating and leaving behind their tribal behaviors and traditions.   Established barbarian tribes in Ekaia include Virdrik's Legacy and Grear's Axe.

Bard

Magicians who learn to spin the ongoing song of creation into magical effects which captivate and inspire. They are often performers and storytellers, wandering from place to place as they gather new skills and lore with which to dazzle and educate audiences.   Established locations in Ekaia where bards may study include the Denrae School of Swords and the lair of the silver dragon Fenolijagg.

Cleric

Priests who have unlocked a higher level of understanding of the world through their faith in their deities after years of study. A very rare few clerics tap into this wisdom without formal training, perhaps after being visited by a divine messenger or even a god.   In Ekaia, most clerics' faith is in one of the Meydra, but it is also possible to primarily follow a Simra.

Druid

Divine casters with such an intense spiritual connection with nature that they eventually learn to adopt the forms of beasts. Druids often reside apart from civilization, often in conclaves of other druids, or completely alone. Some druids call their traditions the Old Faith, referring to an assertion that spiritual union with nature is more ancient than the veneration of gods. They do, however, hold Uapri in high honor, often referring to him as the Elder Priest, or by the ancient name Arvorus. A druid usually has a specific reason for leaving his or her secluded life. Druids who have spent significant time in civilization are often favored as advisors due to their wisdom and resistance to corruption or bribery.   Druids can be found, usually in small numbers, in any wild place in Ekaia.

Fighter

Masters of martial combat and strategy and experts with every major type of weapon and armor and beyond. Delving much deeper into the art of combat than any ordinary guard or soldier, they are trained to minutely analyze a situation and all given resources to instantly determine the best way to get an enemy dead—or incapacitated, if necessary. They are able to reliably fight at least on par with regular soldiers at a moment's notice and without optimal equipment, arming themselves with improvised weapons and protective gear.   Established places for fighters in Ekaia to train include Pilin Thand Academy and the Institute of the Warrior Gods.

Monk

Martial artists who have learned to harness the mystical bodily energy called ki to create harmony within themselves and between themselves and the world around them. Ki is a form of magic that flows through living bodies and requires years of meditation and training to learn to manipulate. This is often achieved with the help of other monks, but can be achieved, by exceptional individuals, over long spans of time spent in total solitude, drawing from the magic of the universe.   Established Ekaian monasteries include Penumbra Monastery, the Storm Sanctum, Aubade Peak, and the House of the Carven Form.

Paladin

Divine champions whose power comes from their zealous devotion to their oath. Often a paladin professes devotion to a particular deity, and swears said oath to better dedicate him or herself to that deity's teachings, but oaths can and often do exist independent of organized religion. Not all warriors who swear an oath come into the powers of a paladin; only those whose personalities and zeal are so forceful that they become able to bend reality around them, harnessing radiant energy, healing bodily ills, and delivering magically charged blows.   Established paladin orders in Ekaia include the Shields of Mannaret, the Order of the Radiant Defender, the Vindicators of the Lost Son, the Order of the Timeworn Torch, the Golden Victors of the East, the Greatblades of the True Warrior, and the Order of Divine Flight.

Ranger

Skilled hunters and trackers who prowl the border between civilization and the wilderness to guard and maintain the balance between them. Where druids exist in union with nature and have no need of civilization, rangers are defined by their dual relationship with both. Over long durations spent quietly observing and learning to understand the natural world, they learn to use nature magic to supplement their fighting, and often form close ties with beasts even as they hunt them. Rangers are known to be staunchly independent, though they also know that in desperate times, there is wisdom in forging alliances, and most rangers have some special bond within the civilized world that compels them to go out and protect it from the perils of the wilds as guards and ambassadors.   Established ranger conclaves in Ekaia include the Kito Archers and the Dimhealm.

Rogue

Sneaky tricksters skilled in deception and legerdemain. Though not all rogues are lawbreaking scoundrels, many are, using sleight and cunning to achieve their goals. Not just any criminal is a rogue, however; it is only the ones who refine their craft into an art form who earn this title. Rogues can also use their skills for jobs of espionage and bounty hunting. Funnily enough, the good rogues often make their living disguising themselves among the bad ones.   Established Ekaian organizations mainly consisting of rogues include the Bazadriys Bulwark and criminal syndicates such as the Steckelbeyr Circle.

Sorcerer

Charismatic casters whose powers come from within. Where other casters get their powers from an understanding of or harmony with the magic in the multiverse, sorcerers' abilities are inherent to who they are. Most sorcerous abilities are inborn, but occasionally a person might become a sorcerer after being profoundly changed by a remarkable event. Having a wellspring of magic within oneself changes one from the inside out, manifesting terrific charisma which draws and fascinates all who are exposed to it.   Established sources of sorcerous power in Ekaia include the red dragon Urrgenthrix, the archfey Reskidiur, and the Darkening of Paper Fern Lake.

Warlock

Mages who wield the magic of a powerful, often extraplanar entity as a part of a binding agreement. Warlocks are beholden to their patrons and bound by the pact that they have entered, the largest benefit of which is the bestowal of impressive magical abilities. Their relationship with their patron, in a sense, is their magic itself, and so the stronger their sense of self, the more effective their magic. In most cases, a person having entered into such a pact is deeply frowned upon because of the inscrutable nature of most patrons.   Established warlock patrons in Ekaia include Neshti, Lekektiktel, Imkerin, and the Swill.

Wizard

Scholars of the arcane who dedicate their lives to increasing their knowledge and understanding of the magic inherent to reality itself. The quintessential pinnacle of arcane casters, wizards learn to directly manipulate the threads of creation that float all around them through hard study of their behavior and structure to bring about whatever changes they desire. This practice is the most versatile of all ways to use magic, limited only in extremely specialized areas such as the magic of the body, nature magic, or magic that depends on a relationship with a more powerful magic-bestowing being.   Established Ekaian academies where wizardry may be studied include the Avid Kaj School of Wizardry and Renato's School of Wizardry. These are first-step wizarding schools, and anyone hoping to hone their magic to the point of true wizardry must go on to study under a master or at a more specialized school, such as the Corixius School of Divination.
