Episode 17
General Summary
The Unlikely Association head north on their mission to investigate the Unnatural Happenings in Nistaun when they come across a woman running towards them - being chased by 2 armed men.
The woman, a Dark Elf it seems, runs past the group, hiding behind Veda and asking for help. The men chasing her are bandits, and several more appear from bushes and trees further up the road - with their leader seemingly a mage of some kind.
The party initiate combat with the highwaymen, who each fall one by one to the adventurer's attacks. Atlas manages to keep one alive for questioning, and the bandit, Simon, promises to take the group to their camp if they let him live. Simon confirms that this was their whole gang, and seems eager to leave.
The dark elf goes by the name Tokira. The woman had been in the capital recently, with hopes of attending the College of Exquisite Arts as a sculptor. Unfortunately for her, she missed the admittance deadline by a few days. Unable to find anywhere hospitable or anyone decent to escort her, she decided to make her own way home to Sonkai. Being a dark elf apparently leads to the wrong sort of attention. Tokira had taken the wrong road (meaning to go east) and ended up on the much lesser travelled route towards Nistaun. Although there is some weariness amongst the party towards this stranger, it is agreed that she can accompany them to Nistaun for safety, with a possible future escort to Kitaun where the Sonkai Embassy will pay the group for their troubles.
Simon eventually leads the group to the bandit camp, where they find a cache of stolen goods. Having done as promised, Simon is allowed to flee with a sword, some silver and a potion of healing.
Whilst resting in the camp, two horses appear through the trees - one with a shining horn upon its head, the other with a flaming mane. Marty identifies these to be a unicorn and a nightmare - one of the signs of Hostetta, and an omen for a coming war.
Also during the rest, Marty draws two cards for Tokira - Donjon and The Missionary, what these cards may mean is yet to be discovered.
The group continue heading north and reach Nistaun after 8 days travel. The town is barren, with only a few occupants remaining. At the The Horn & Sprite tavern, the group finding Jeanie Gatehouse, who fills them in on the goings on of the town. It seems the trouble started at the mayor's estate, when his wife and daughter were murdered. Since then, many strange things have happened, with no end in sight... perhaps until now.
