Breac's Guild report - 0.4.5 agf
I won't cry for yesterday
Breac led a team to the town of Maius in the northern Empire, to an old shrine he used to force an out-of-body experience into the Shadowfell and the River of Stories. There, with the aid of the Ferry Man, he travelled along the river with the ghost of Whisper to examine several memories of the last time the Guild ventured through the dreamworld with William Bregan, just before Guildfall. The party was assailed by memories of their own, but they proved to be of little physical threat - just emotionally disturbing.
Eventually the party would come to the site of the Nightmare Gate itself, guarded by the Shadow-Mother, where the events of the duel between William and Whisper echoed across the shrine (see 0.0.14 before guildfall). As the party mused over the meaning of the echoed memories they had witnessed, their Whisper-looking companion was revealed to be the evil half of the William/Whisper duality. He disrupted the Shadow Mother's control of the Nightmare Gate, allowing first a Beholder and then a Death Giant to push into reality, and charmed several party members and attempted to force them to run into the Gate.
With the party somewhat distracted Whisper gave the Shadow-Mother an ultimatum - summon Rhillaine to save the party, or watch them die, as Whisper was confident he would be able to shatter the new Goddess of Knowledge's mind if she were brought before the Gate. The Shadow-Mother reached back into the nether, but instead of Rhillaine, she brought forth Lord William Bregan, who bade the party to drag Whisper closer to the gate. There, William confronted his alter-ego and nemesis.
"What? What?!? What did you think would happen? Did you think Nathrael was the only one who could learn to rewrite reality? That's always been the weakness of your kind, Abyrrus - a lack of imagination!
With that, William threw both himself and Whisper into the Nightmare Gate, which promptly stabalised, leaving the Little Warriors with more questions than answers.
