Grassland Felarid
Grassland felarids are a distinctive breed of the felarids, perfectly adapted to the expansive grasslands of Elaris. With their lithe and agile frames, these little creatures resemble miniature cheetahs or jaguars, their bodies built for speed and grace. Their deep yellow or brown fur, marked with black-brown spots, provides excellent camouflage in the tall grasses of their homelands, making them adept hunters and elusive prey.
Grassland felarids are slightly taller than their puffed counterparts, standing at around 2¼ to 3 feet tall. Their bodies are sleek and muscular, built for swift movement and agile maneuvers. Their fur is short and coarse, providing minimal resistance to the wind as they dash across the plains. The large, expressive eyes of grassland felarids are typically amber or green and provide them with excellent vision even in conditions of low or even no light. Their ears are large and highly sensitive, able to detect the faintest sounds of movement within the grass.
Their voices are characterized by a series of hisses, growls, and chirps, forming a unique regional dialect that is both distinct and challenging for other races to imitate. Despite this, their body language and expressive eyes often convey their intentions clearly.
Grassland felarids form close-knit communities known as prides, which are highly social and cooperative. These prides are led by the most experienced and respected members, often older felarids with a wealth of knowledge about the land and its dangers. Leadership is fluid, with roles shifting based on the needs of the pride and the skills of its members.
Unlike the more settled puffed felarids, those of the grassland are highly nomadic, following the herds of prey animals across the plains. Their homes are temporary shelters constructed from natural materials, providing protection from the elements without anchoring them to a single location. This nomadic lifestyle has made them excellent navigators and survivalists, capable of thriving in the harsh conditions of the grasslands.
Grassland felarids are known for their keen sense of justice and fierce loyalty to their pride. They are brave and daring, often taking great risks to protect their loved ones, but they are often considered less goodly in nature than their puffed counterparts. Despite their serious nature, they have a playful side, enjoying games and races that test their speed and agility.
Their highly perceptive nature makes them excellent scouts and spies, able to move silently and observe without being detected. Their agility and speed are unmatched among the felarid subraces, allowing them to outrun most threats and to catch even the swiftest of prey.
