Puffed Felarid

Puffed felarids are the most common variety of felarids within Elaris, and their distinctive appearance makes them easily recognizable among their kin. With long, often silky fur that creates an impression of a larger frame than they actually possess, these tiny bipedal catfolk charm those who encounter them. Their fur comes in a variety of colors and patterns, from solid hues to intricate tabby stripes and calico spots. Despite their seemingly delicate appearance, Puffed Felarids are robust and capable of impressive feats of agility and strength.   Standing at around 2 to 2½ feet tall, puffed felarids have a light and nimble build. Their fur, which can be straight or slightly wavy, provides excellent insulation and helps them adapt to various climates. The eyes of puffed felarids are large and expressive, typically in shades of green, gold, blue, or white, with a keen and observant gaze that rarely misses anything in their surroundings. Their ears are pointed and highly mobile, allowing them to pick up on the slightest sounds, and their tails are typically long and bushy, providing balance and communication cues. However, some puffed felarids have a "bobtail", which is short and much puffier, almost looking like a rabbit's tail.   Their voices are soft and often scratchy, punctuated by cat-like mewls and purrs, which can make them challenging for other races to understand when they speak. However, their expressive body language and keen perception allow them to communicate effectively, even without words.   Puffed felarids are known for their social and curious nature, often integrating seamlessly into the communities of other species. They prefer to live among humans and halflings—with braveheart halflings being their personal favorites—where they find the bustling activity and diverse cultures fascinating. Despite their inclination towards living in settled areas, they retain a semi-nomadic lifestyle, frequently moving between different towns and villages.   Their society is organized into tight-knit packs, which function much like extended families. These packs are highly communal, sharing resources and responsibilities. Leadership within a pack is often determined by a combination of age, experience, and charisma, with the most respected members guiding the group through consensus.   Puffed felarids are cheerful, playful, and have a strong sense of justice. They are often found championing the causes of the downtrodden and opposing evil wherever they find it. Those with a slightly weaker sense of justice often find work singing and making merryment—though never with instruments due to their poor body design for such things—among other species to help happiness to all. Their playful nature and small size lead many to underestimate them, but those who do quickly learn of their determination and resourcefulness.   They have a fondness for both natural and crafted beauty, appreciating the intricate details in art, architecture, and nature alike. Some puffed felarids are particularly drawn to magic, especially spells that allow the protection of people or places, allowing them to aid others even if they themselves possess a frail body.   As obligate carnivores, puffed felarids obtain all their necessary nutrients from meat, with a strong preference for raw meat, especially fish. They are known for their voracious appetites and have a tendency to overindulge when food is abundant. This sometimes leads them to acts of minor thef, particularly of food, but their charming demeanor and the general goodwill they inspire often result in forgiveness from those they steal from.

Names

Puffed felarids take names that draw from nature, and almost never include living things or manufactured items. The most wretched thing a felarid could do is name their child after an act of true violence, something puffed felarids abhor and avoid when possible, but playful actions are often encouraged. Their names, like all felarids, are always three-part names that are hyphenated. Some example names include Scratches-at-Trees, Sips-from-Rivers, Sleeps-on-Stones, Runs-through-Reeds, and Pounces-on-Pebbles.   Unlike almost all other species, felarids not only appreciate but encourage nicknames to be given even outside of relationships. They often feel the draw to mirror any given nickname from another race, but they never give another felarid a nickname outside of a relationship. For example, a felarid called "Puffy" by a gnome named Gelbert may soon find themselves referring to their friend as Puffy Gelbert, mirroring the name onto the giver. Felarids do often give name extensions to other species, but never nicknames. For example, one may refer to a hunter named Yesui that fed them as "Meat Bringer Yesui" or "Meat Woman Yesui" as appreciation for the grand gift. There are few more dire insults from the little folk than withdrawing such a name extension, and it is only done in times of great betrayal.

Pathfinder 2e
The Puffed Felarids, easily the most common among their kind, are known for their irresistibly puffy coats that provide both warmth and comfort. Standing at a mere two and a half feet tall, these Felarids have an innate knack for creating coziness and spreading warmth wherever they go.   Their fur, often varying in shades of white, black, soft beige, sandy brown, or gentle gray, has a naturally plush texture that invites touch and embraces those in need of solace. Puffed Felarids are natural caregivers, and their presence in a community often results in increased camaraderie and well-being. They are renowned for their skill in crafting soft, comforting garments, and their ability to create cozy sanctuaries in even the harshest of environments.   Your family has always seemed to bounce back from disaster, doing everything you can to push on and protect others. If you are reduced to 0 Hit Points by a critical hit on an attack roll, you become dying 1 instead of dying 2.
