Session 2.15

General Summary

Upon reaching the river town of Quail Hollows the party met up with Mayor Selai Parse and Detective Vesley who provided the group with the details on the disappearing children. After some initial investigation and the assistance of the Grey Cloaks, the town’s version of police/detective, the group had narrowed down to two potential suspects to Revox(a male orc and local fisherman), and Professor Menethis(a male purple skin tiefling, and teacher at the Quail Hollows School) who was said to have avoided questioning.   With Revox unavailable due to being away fishing, the group first decided to check in on Professor Menethis. When he did not show up to school the following morning the party decided to pay his house a visit. When he was not there the group broke in and searched the home. Priestess Luna was able to find a trap door under a rug, and decided to see where it led. Taking the initiative Rhorn went down first only to be attacked by a water elemental. The party fought it off rather handily and it resulted in the elemental bursting like a water balloon.   Professor Menethis’s basement now free of threats was thoroughly searched and the party discovered books were arcane in nature, but written in languages that were unfamiliar to everyone present. Fannti and Priestess Luna retrieved Detective Vesley to show him their discovery. The detective was surprised, and said he would call upon the headmaster of the school to see if he could make sense of some of the books. This investigation was interrupted when another detective, a halfling with curly brown hair by the name of Detective Gomes, arrived to notify the dragonborn detective and the group that the body of the fisherman Revox was found by a Dwarven Captain (Ophelia) Waters in a channel between the first and second island of The Crumbs.   Detective Vesley asked the party to investigate the location where the fisherman was discovered while he attempts to find someone who can translate the book. The group then boarded Captain Waters’ ship which happened to be a cross between a barge and a pontoon. She had introduced herself stating that she had been conducting her own investigation by searching up and down the Mongave River because she saw that the Grey Cloaks were stretched thin, and she is a single mother, and one of her daughters, Paige, was one of the missing children. Captain Waters took the group to the channel where the fisherman was found. There the party found remnants of a wooden boat that appeared to have been smashed to pieces, as well as a small camp on the first island facing the channel and second island.   Following the clues the group head to the second island, a larger version of the previous and found what appeared to be an underground soot covered cavern with failed a ritual site, a teddy bear, and writings of a mad man which stated “BLOOD OF THE PURE”, along with a journal entry stating that the space was not large enough. The next logical move was to head over to the next island of the crumbs just another 200ft or so away. As the party was dropped off, Rhorn had informed Capt. Waters to find Detective Vesley and take him to the second island to assess the findings. Upon heading up the a ways into the island the group found a man made opening under a giant tombstone shaped boulder which upon following the passage led the party to a narrow corridor that opened up to a space that was tinted red.   Before passing through the threshold, Priestess Luna had collapsed under mysterious circumstances. The group took her to the passage entrance back above ground where she could recover. Concerned that it was an arcane barrier Rhorn charged ahead of the other two, and found that it was not a barrier, and upon making it to the cavern opening had found:
  • A large stone altar shaped slab
  • A glowing arcane circle on the ground
  • A makeshift cage over made into a recessed portion of the space with wooden bars with a Water Elemental guarding it.
  • A feint looking arcane portal with some lightly seeping arcane energy.
  • A hooded figure, arms outstretched heading towards the makeshift cage.
