Session 2.15
General Summary
The party went to Professor Menethis’s(one of the suspects) residence to investigate the teacher when he did not arrive at school. Unfortunately the professor was not home, but that did not stop the group from investigating his home. With Priestess Luna locating a secret trap door to a basement, Rhron headed down and was attacked by a water elemental which the part dispatched. With the basement now free of threats, this space was thoroughly searched and the party discovered that a majority of the books were arcane in nature, but written in languages that were unfamiliar to everyone present. Fannti and Priestess Luna retrieved Detective Vesley to show him their discovery. The detective was surprised, and said he would call upon the headmaster of the school to see if he could make sense of some of the books. However, the investigation was interrupted when another Greycloak, a halfling with curly brown hair by the name of Detective Gomes, arrived to notify the dragonborn detective and the group that the body of the fisherman Revox was found by a Dwarven Captain (Ophelia) Waters in a channel between the first and second island of The Crumbs.
Detective Vesley asked the party to investigate the location where the fisherman was discovered while he attempts to find someone who can translate the book. The group boarded Captain Waters’ ship which was a cross between a barge and a pontoon. On the way to the site, she had introduced herself stating that she had been conducting her own investigation by searching up and down the Mongave River noticing that the Grey Cloaks were stretched thin, and she that she was a single mother whose daughter, Paige, was one of the missing children. Captain Waters took the group to the channel where the fisherman was found. There the party found remnants of a wooden boat that appeared to have been smashed to pieces, as well as a small abandoned camp on the first island facing the channel and as well as the second island.
Following the clues the group head to the second island, a larger version of the previous and found what appeared to be a soot covered cavern with traces of a ritual site, a teddy bear, and writings of a mad man which stated “BLOOD OF THE PURE”, along with a journal entry stating that the space was not large enough. The next logical move was to head over to the next island of the crumbs just another 200ft or so away. As the party was dropped off, Rhorn had informed Capt. Waters to find Detective Vesley and take him to the second island to assess the scene. Continuing on the party headed up the a ways towards the center of the island where they found a man made opening under a giant tombstone shaped boulder. Upon following the passage it led the party to a narrow corridor that opened up to a space that was tinted red.
Prior to passing through the threshold, Priestess Luna had seemed pained, and collapsed under mysterious circumstances. The group took her to the passage entrance back above ground where she could recover. Concerned that it was an arcane barrier Rhorn charged ahead of Zhorn and Fannti, and found that it was not a barrier, and upon making it to the cavern opening was shocked with what he had found:
- A large altar shaped stone slab appears to have been prepared for a ritual.
- A glowing arcane circle on the ground similar to that in the professor’s basement.
- A makeshift cage over made into a recessed portion of the space with wooden bars with a Water Elemental guarding it.
- A feint looking arcane portal with some lightly seeping arcane energy.
- A hooded figure, arms outstretched heading towards the makeshift cage.
