Session 2.16
General Summary
The party’s search for the missing children of Quail Hollow had led them to the third island of the crumbs, a string of river islands, located in the middle of the Mongave River. Here within a subterranean cavern, the group had discovered a ritual underway that was producing a red tint within the confines of this space. Aside from that there was also a wooden cell built into a recessed space that contained the missing children. With all this information, Rhorn with his action first mentality sprang immediately between Professor Menethis and his water elemental bodyguard.
During the encounter Rhorn occupied the immediate threats with the assistance of Zhorn. The goliath brothers had noticed that Professor Menethis was not entirely himself speaking outloud to no one in particular saying things like “Not the children,'' and even petitioning for your assistance “Help me.” While this was happening Fannti saw, grabbed a black tome on the ritual table, and ran. However, it had seemed as if Fannti had suffered some side effects from contact with the tome where he was thinking of removing the tome from the immediate area, but his kept being pulled towards the arcane portal, and finishing the ritual.
Priestess Luna, who had collapsed due to the pain, was placed outside of the cavern by her allies to recover. Having finally regained consciousness she was able to subdue the pain and entered the fray providing timely healing for her allies. When the situation began to turn in the party’s favor the professor escaped through a slowly fading portal, but was a little too late having his foot cut off as the portal had closed.
The party dispatched of the water elementals who had somehow divided after multiple attacks. At the conclusion of the encounter, the party managed to rescue all ten of the reportedly missing children, Zhorn claimed the professor’s foot as his own personal trophy, and the Priestess had found a crumpled up receipt that noted the Professor had bought the tome from the Trago for a hefty sum.
Regrouping on the shores of the island, the group hailed Captain Waters who ferried everyone back to the town. Fannti had used mage hand to keep the tome at a distance from everyone, and asked Mayor Parse to temporarily place it in safe keeping while he attempted to find answers, specifically its origins, the contents, and its effects. The Mayor had some concerns, but reluctantly agreed. As a compromise Fannti offered to spend the night in her office with the group. Meanwhile the elated parents reunited with the missing children who recounted their experiences calling the professor crazy, but at the same time kept them safe and fed. Zhorn went back to the Professor's residence to see if the professor had gone back to his home, but saw no signs of any intrusions between now and when the group last visited. As this was happening Priestess and Fannti visited the temple of Cygna where you met with Priest Lawson who had provided you with a small supply of nightsbane. Rhorn had met with Captain Waters who agreed to transport the group north towards Omrith.
Before retiring for the night. The group was provided with 1000GP as a reward, half of which the party had returned.
