Session 2.17
General Summary
The party wakes up in the confines of the Mayor Selai Parse’s office having volunteered to stay there the night to keep an eye on a black tome that they found on a ritual table being conducted by Professor Menethis who had taken children from the town of Quail Hollows. Fannti who had procured the book wound up with some unexpected effects from the tome and thought it best to keep it hidden away until further action could be taken.
Early in the morning the mayor visited the group with Priest Lawson of the Temple of Cygna. He in turn tried to ascertain more information on the book through a ritual or meditation. From it he confirmed Fannti’s concerns stating that this book is of a powerful and ancient dark magic. It is also cursed, however, Priest Lawson could not glean more stating that this magic is far above his comprehension. He had recommended two authorities including High Priestess Genevieve Lloras in Yulis or Archsage Amadeus Pendergast in the Dusklight Academy in Jobrun. Afterwards, per Fannti’s request the Mayor had provided the group with a metal case, about an inch thick all around to place the book in. Once secure, Fannti had warped the lock with a combination of fire spells.
Then the group stocked up on supplies for the two and half day sail on the River Sloth, Captain Waters’ barge/pontoon. On the way to Omrith the group saw on either side of the river Federation and Republic forces building up defenses for when the war resumes. What stuck the hardest was the siege weapons being built in Peche, the former home for the party. The two days of travel went by pretty uneventfully. Finally late in the afternoon on the 3rd day of travel, to group’s shock, the cliff where Omrith’s lighthouse was resting upon, was just gone along with the lighthouse. Fannti and Zhorn had posited that this large slice of missing land was due to the Earthquake. As the party approached the bay there was a Federation ship about the size of the Sea Hagg who’s crew appeared to be busy pulling debris out of the water.
Looking to further assess the situation, the party decided to head into town posing as merchants discovering that the usually quiet seaside town of Omrith like many other towns that the party has encountered thus far is undergoing a transformation as it seems like the world is getting ready for war. Omrith in particular is being used as a base of operation or a supply depot as there is plenty of construction as well as crates of supplies being brought in.
The group headed to the local tavern/inn named Water’s Edge where Fannti had struck up conversation with the bar keep, a male half orc, Sorgen, trying to glean more information about any more refugee encampments, to which Sorgen said that he potentially knew of one located in the heart of an Orcish city to the Northeast. While this conversation was happening. Rhorn drew the interest of a group of sailors looking to get the story of Surge. Rhorn was happy enough to oblige, and one thing led to another, and eventually Rhorn and Zhorn was convinced to a race with the crew’s best swimmer, a human male by the name of Monte. At the conclusion of the night, crowd lined the docks to watch the race which Fannti handily won thanks to his special beastial adaptations. Rhorn who was heavily favored thanks to his stories struggles without the assistance of Surge, which was left on shore.
While in the water Rhorn had encountered a blue skinned marine elf, who was looking for Surge who he was referring to as a key to a treasury of Reezmar. Claiming this creature to be too mean for your taste you had hesitated to hear his request. Instead in search of the Baricon Ore, the group opted to assist with the salvage mission on the Lost and Founders. Which Fannti so generously offered up the services Rhorn and Zhorn to assist.
Once in the water the two goliaths were given instructions on how to do the job. Rhorn had been visited by the sea elf again petitioning for immediate assistance, but Rhorn asked to delay the request until the following morning. Zhorn had discovered a large chunk of the lighthouse, but it seemed that the tools used for everyday operations of the lighthouse are nowhere to be found. The only curiosity in this space is a few large scales.
