Session 2.28
General Summary
With the party having established a three week deadline for when they want to depart for the Summit of Nations, the group took this allotted time to explore the rest of the island. Zhorn, having established a new foundation for how the wood elves would now operate during his reign, took Fannti and Priestess Luna to Hearthendel to investigate the two captives that Captain Estes and the TT had apprehended. With Priestess Luna’s Zone of Truth spell, the three were able to gather a few bits of information:
One of the elves is a female wood elf by the name of Terrian, who was the one responsible for stabbing Zhorn. She was stubborn, and didn’t express any remorse in her actions stating that it was justified as Zhorn was in the way of her mission. She was part of a coalition of wood eleves and drow called the Eclipse lead by Master Everen. The party departed her company, undecided about her overall fate. The second elf was a male drow by the name of Idalin. He was a little less stubborn, and identified himself as a low ranking member of the Eclipse, but he did divulge he was adjacent to the observation stand that was blown off when Fannti thunderstepped at the conclusion of of the Terra Trial.
Afterwards the group confronted Master Everen who confirmed himself as the leader of the Eclipse who’s primary focus was to unify the Elves of the island, and now that the primary purpose of his organization was realized much earlier than he was anticipated, Fannti and Zhorn asked him to redirect his efforts domestically before looking on a establishing a more national level network.
The following day, with Rhorn busy assisting with the repairs and upgrades both to docks and The Sea Lass, the remaining three party members headed to explore the rest of the island. Prior to departing the group found Prince Renwick wanting to help serving as a guide, translator, and a historian. After consulting with a map that Priestess Luna found, the party decided to head to the south of the Island to explore a town called Kalenton.
It was about a 6 hour trip and upon arriving the group found an abandoned town being reclaimed by nature. The party took note of the usuable natural resources including forest, river, and sea for fishing. These resources also provided for natural protection against enemies. Investigating the town, the party found signs of a hasty evacuation but what remains are usable foundations of buildings, and upon investigating the town hall found a potion of healing as well as a coin purse filled with 100 platinum pieces.
Afterwards, Priestess Luna, Fannti, and Zhorn were particulary interested by the portion of the map to the East called the Forlorn Hills and more curiously the Death Lands and an ancient settlement called Gramoral or the Village of Blight. Turning your attention to the area the group traversed through the Forlorn Hills and upon overlooking the valley below, the party decided to continue on to Gramoral on foot while leaving the cart and mounts with Prince Renwick.
Navigating through the Death Lands it was a quiet scene with no signs of life evidenced by the dead trees, lack of wildlife, and the absolute silence as a result of a landscape devoid of any life. As the sun gave way to the darkness, it also welcomed in a dense mist that obscured the party's vision and brought along with it a general sense of foreboding. Luckily, or unluckily the outer walls of the town were just visible in the distance and the party made their way towards it. Seeking shelter at the nearest building, the party entered, but was immediately greeted by a collapsing floor that Priestess Luna and Fannti fell through past the main floor and even down through the basement. In this lower chamber where the mist did not reach, Priestess Luna and Fannti discover an opening which they decide to follow.
At the end of this passage was a large chamber where the party ran across what can be best described as a shadow tree that is blacker than night with a trunk that is about 100ft around. The group tried multiple attmepts to cleanse/destroy both through magic and physical means, the group soons realizes that both means proved ineffective. Priestess then reached out to Lord Claremont who advised the party to leave that space, and in doing so they heed his advise and retreat back to the surface.
