Session 2.29

General Summary

While exploring the Village of Blight/Gramoral, Fannti, Priestess Luna, and Zhorn, had stumbled upon an ominous series of shadowy tendrils deep underneath the town. After trying different methods on trying to dispose of the Shadow Blights, Priestess Luna had reached out to Lord Claremont for any knowledge on this anomaly. He in turn had advised the party leave it alone because they were out of their depth. Following his advice, the three members resurfaced and decided to regroup with Prince Renwick, but not before Priestess contacted Rhorn to assist with the group’s ongoing exploration of the island.   Heading back to Kalenton for the night, the party decided to move on to next point of interest on the island for the following day. Using the map Priestess had discovered in the keep, the group headed for a strange geological spot in the heart of the island. Serving as the party guide, Prince Renwick informed the party that the large chasm was called the Delpit and was created when a large meteor had broken into three pieces and crashed on the island, the largest of which was what lay before you. Also he had advised against exploration of this site saying that the elves of the island had looked upon the pit as bad luck due to a combination of its unfathomable depth and the wild arcane magic that seems to emanate from within the chasm.   Despite Prince Renwick’s warning, the party headed towards the Delpit to investigate, and they found multiple fissures surround the large pit at its epicenter stretching down into the abyss. Zhorn with his climbing form, along with Priestess Luna descended down and discovered a large cavernous space that was ripe with arcane energy, and upon reaching the bottom, came to the realization that this initial space could not have been the bottom because although the very air was saturated with an unclassiable type of arcane energy the source was yet to be located.   Their curiosity got the best of them and they began to dig which caused the floor to collapse beneath them and they plummeted down another 100ft or so, and finally, on this level, both Priestess and Zhorn had seemingly found the source of the arcane energy, a silver/chrome colored slab of rock the size of a table. From this frament of meteor visible waves/strands of arcane energy filled the entirety of the deepest parts of the chamber, and after some further investigating, Priestess Luna was able to confirm that it appeared to be part of a larger rock. Then Zhorn attempted to shave a chunk off with his whip sword, but was unsuccessful.   With their preliminary investigation complete, their knowledge on the subject matter exhausted, and being wary of the visible strands of arcane energy, the two returned to the surface and shared their information with the other two party members.   Deciding to continue to familiarize themselves with the island, the group proceeds to the next point of interest which was the River Town of Riorend. In this town the party had discovered a similarly abandoned town much like Kalenton and their home city when they first arrived. The town’s distinct feature was the two watermills, both largely intact. Afterwards, the party decided to ford the river, and ended up following the map to the next closest Elven town called Cyrelia where the group found a druid by the name of Master Abermere to discuss the Delpit and the shadow tendrils. To which the following information was disclosed:
  1. The Delpit is one of three craters caused by the impact of a large celestial meteor that had broken apart once it broke the planet’s atmosphere.
  2. Attempts had been made to try to study Delpit, but the sheer magnitude of the magic present made initial research and any attempts at progress impossible.
  3. Those branches of shadow under the DeathLands, and Gramoral specifically were present before the Great Exodus.
  4. The tendrils were spreading across the island, but somehow the spread was contained by something.
