Session 2.30
General Summary
Having explored 2/3rds of the island, the party finds themselves in the Elven village of Cyrelia in the Eastern regions of the island. While in town the party had gathered some information with regards to both the Delpit as well as the shadowy tendrils encountered beneath the Death Lands. The source of this information was a wizened elven druid by the name of Master Aberemere, who appeared to also be some sort of teacher/mentor for Prince Renwick who was promptly scolded for having put the group in danger and not warning them about those two points of interest. At the end of the conversation he had departed with Zhorn to discuss some matters in private.
Before going to bed, Priestess Luna had suggested heading to find a store to peruse the wares that the village had to offer. What the group had found was a grouping of stalls on the outskirts of the village where residents as well as other elves from all over the island bartered for goods.
A few items had caught Priestess Luna’s attention including, a potion of Hill Giant Strength, a treasure map in a foreign language, a spell scroll of spiked growth, and a parrying dagger. Three of the four items had intrigued the party and through a series of deals with some of the current items in the group's inventory, the party acquired the potion, the treasure map, and the parrying dagger.
Looking to retire for the night, the group sought refuge with Prince Renwick’s aunt, Ophelia, who was Lord Luthien’s older sister. The depressed elven woman offered the party rooms for the night and encouraged them to make themselves at home, and excused herself retreating to her room. Fannti responded by cooking a scrumptious meal for everyone, and even going as far as to meal prep for Aunt Ophelia. Before resting, the group decided that the following day they were going to attempt to complete the circuit around the island in accordance with the map by exploring the northwest region of the island which included the town of Laknere, the Correlan Desert, Thresham, and the Solpit.
The following morning, Fannti, Priestess Luna, Prince Renwick, and Rhorn took Zhorn’s royal cart, and made the three and a half hour journey to Laknere where once again they discovered the remains of another abandoned village by a large lake with the usable foundation of what was once was a thriving community. Upon deeper inspection Fannti found a painting with a group of men including what appeared to be a younger Lord Asos, as well as Lord Luthien and Lord Claremont. After taking the portrait from the frame, it revealed a lockbox and with the combined use of a crowbar the contents revealed what appeared like a journal written in a different language.
Pocketing the pieces of parchment the party continued on towards the Correlan Desert and the Solpit which was about 45 mins to an hour from Laknere. When the group arrived it appeared like an abandoned mine, but there appeared to be a collapse on the path that led to the depths of the chasm. Using ropes and ladders that had already been set up, Rhorn led the delve down followed by Priestess Luna and Fannti leaving Prince Renwick on the surface with the cart.
What initially caught Rhorn’s attention was that despite descending down hundreds of feet at this point, the ambient temperature began to increase, and continued to increase until the bottom was reached about 1,200ft or so below the surface. At the bottom Rhorn had noticed a strange mound at the center of this chamber, and the soil/material down at this depth appeared to be either charred earth or powdered coal. While the priestess began to ritually cast the detect magic spell Rhorn had decided to investigate the ashen mound, and wiped some dirt away which exposed a piece of transparent rock, and upon doing so visible wisps of fiery arcane energy began to coalesce at the center of the chamber forming a fiery humanoid figure that attacked the party. After a brief exchange, the party came to the realization that they may be overmatched, so they quickly headed for the ramp back up to the exit being harried by the fiery figure the entire way thus far.
