Farida Guerouabi
Matron Farida Guerouabi
Farida Guerouabi was the daughter of a laborer in the city of Andros. Her father and mother were destitute and lacked any substantial means of income. As Farida grew older, she became more involved with helping the family in the city streets, maintaining the home and caring for her younger siblings. She was noticed when she turned eighteen by the young son of the mukarrib of the island. He offered her father a substantial dowry for the purchase of his daughter as a concubine for his growing harem. As the first to be added to his harem, it was a position of relative honor.
Farida was wary of the harem lifestyle, but in time, she became the matron of those that Mukarrib Walid accumulated within. She was the first among equals and one of the more respected female members of the court. This respect was only heightened when her son, Besnik, succeeded his father after the Battle of Freeport. Her position was cemented and she lived in luxury for the remainder of her life, providing vital advice and insight for her son.
