House Chafik
House Chafik is the ruling house of the island of Tayarat. House Chafik are the direct descendents of the first individual to have been selected by the djinn Shibef for service to him in exchange for refuge on the island. The house is said to have originally been the very first people to have fled from the attacks and invasions of the Jakonian Empire in the sixth century. According to legend, they had narrowly escaped the Jakonians, after sinking and destroying three of their warships while fleeing. The house has maintained a strong connection with the sea, and has employed or produced numerous skilled engineers and architects who have made their mark upon the famous floating town.
Public Agenda
House Chafik is one of the more cautious of noble houses that exists within the Bahami Federation. Due to the exposure of Tayarat to the elements and raiders alike, they focus primarily upon being mediators and warning of too large of assaults upon the mainland. They typically attempt to resolve disputes between the larger noble houses and islands, hoping to avoid conflict, and prevent a conflagration that could consume their community.
Assets
The house has a handful of military assets, but mostly relies upon levies of corsairs and raiders from the ranks of the people of Tayarat. A small house guard has also been recruited of loyal volunteers, plus a handful of observed catfolk slaves as agents and spies. In a pinch, the house could levy nearly two dozen warships with full crews of corsairs, should they or their holdings become threatened. The Chafik are also known to have an incredible wealth through a collection of pearls and gemstones, dug up from underneath Tayarat and the mines therein. The wealth of the house has been accumulated over the centuries, some being traded for gold and the stockpiles needed in the case of a siege or breakdown in trading routes.
