House Kyakas
House Kyakas is one of the seven demonkin houses that rules the Kingdom of Populres. They control the settlement of Zalsgrad, the only civilian trading port belonging to the monstrous kingdom. House Kyakas is best known for their embrace of the ideas of trade and exploration, seeking out new ways to obtain wealth and resources, in addition to participating in a bit of light raiding on the side.
Structure
House Kyakas is organized with a strong leader at the top, usually the most powerful spellcaster within the organization. Despite being referred to as a noble house, Kyakas is an assembly of smaller families and clans within the larger house. They all remain aligned, and all pay homage to whichever spell caster is in charge. The head of the house is determined by duels and challenges, like those of the dragonkin and orcs, but with more of an emphasis on the humiliation of your opponent, rather than their death. Death is considered the least reputable way to end such a duel, with many favoring petrification or imprisonment to hold their rivals as trophies.
Public Agenda
House Kyakas is publicly for the expansion of Populres' interests abroad, looking for trade with the other nations of Emicara. Although officially Populres remains at war with many of these states, or at least in a state of perpetual condemnation, House Kyakas has been free to pursue these opportunities independently. This has created a tense rivalry with House Zherlius, which maintains its own professional naval force. The two houses disagree on the approach to Populres' ocean-borne endeavors, with House Kyakas advocating for cooperation with other powers and a larger civilian trading force.
Assets
The merchant fleet of House Kyakas is the only of any true size within the Kingdom of Populres. Although some other houses have purchased ships for trade and diplomacy, they must all pay taxes and support to be able to dock at the facilities controlled by Kyakas. The House also possesses a monopoly upon production and distribution of Ispep, a beverage produced solely in Zalsgrad and coveted for its ability to provide energy and strength to slaves and warriors. The house therefore has perhaps the largest hoard of gold and wealth of any of the houses, though the exact amount is kept a closely guarded secret to discourage theft attempts.
