House Karchar
House Karchar is one of the seven ruling houses of the Kingdom of Populres. They are often considered to be the weakest of the seven houses, as their resources are often taxed by the constant conflicts with Recfrere. House Karchar is known for some of the most brutal and efficient military leaders in all of Populres, but are also viewed as suspect for their alleged sympathies towards the manners and traditions of other races beyond demonkin. Orcs and dragonkin are known to be able to gain some rank and influence within the house, and at one point in the house's history a magic-wielding dragonkin was elevated to head of the house, until he was assassinated by an agent of House Salira.
Structure
House Karchar is organized with a strong leader at the top, usually the most powerful spellcaster within the organization. Despite being referred to as a noble house, Karchar is an assembly of smaller families and clans within the larger house. They all remain aligned, and all pay homage to whichever spell caster is in charge. The head of the house is determined by duels and challenges, like those of the dragonkin and orcs, but with more of an emphasis on the humiliation of your opponent, rather than their death. Death is considered the least reputable way to end such a duel. It is usually considered amusing to eliminate the rival through means of powerful spellcraft such as polymorph or petrification, and members of House Karchar are notorious to assembling a collection of trophies that were once former rivals.
Public Agenda
The leaders of House Karchar are a symphony of contradictions, both advocating a stronger defense along the Recfreran border, while maintaining that a long-term peace should be made. The leaders of the house have long suggested that common ground be found with Recfrere, possibly even the abolition of slavery to improve diplomatic ties, despite maintaining numerous slaves themselves. The house is seemingly most interested in ending their status as the front line battleground each time a war erupts to the south, hoping to drive the focus of the nation towards the north to deal with the persistent threat of the undead hordes.
Assets
House Karchar possesses the smallest standing military forces in the entire Kingdom of Populres. The other houses field significantly larger armies, and this is due to Karchar's emphasis on quality over quantity. They are known to elevate talented goblin, orc, and dragonborn officers to higher positions, if they are skilled enough. They have earned the loyalty of their underlings by treating them well and with respect due rather than the barely concealed contempt of the other houses. Unfortunately, years of raids and warfare have diminished the financial assets of the house, leaving them as one of the poorest aristocratic families in Emicara.
