House Littlefield

House Littlefield is an old, established Jakonian family that has ruled in the southeastern part of the peninsula since time immemorial. The Littlefields were said to have owned property and lived in the area since the days of the Nameless Empire, and continue to serve as the just and fair rulers of the land. Their holdings are small, but often profitable, relying heavily upon the Okeechobee trade and fishing.

Public Agenda

House Littlefield has expressed neutrality and isolation from most of the political affairs of the Jakonian Empire. As leaders of one of the more rural lordships, they have very little influence over the state of affairs in the nation, and frequently abstain from any disputes among nobles. When they are pressed, they call for less direct governance from the imperial throne and more powers and autonomy to the regional nobles and governors.

Assets

House Littlefield has minimal actual possessions compared to most Jakonian houses, beyond taxation of the docks of Port Maya and Refuge. With Refuge, typically the town council simply collects the taxes upon their own authority and then turns over a percentage to House Littlefield. What funds are collected go towards the maitenance of docks, the Littlefield estate in Port Maya, and the Littlefield house regiments, which are mostly staffed by retired wanderers and friends of the current patriarch. They also possess ownership of a large spice plantation outside of Port Maya, which also acts as the primary residence of the lords.

History

The Littlefields are said to have begun as mere rural farmers and ranchers under the rule of the Nameless Empire. They lived upon the edges of the Sawgrass Sea and the Eternal Glades. They eked out a quiet lifestyle, only interrupted when the town of Port Maya was founded, and they began interacting with the new settlers. The Littlefields found great prosperity in turning their grazing land into the nourishment of exotic  spices, which they then sold to Liberty and the Imperial City. This wealth and their passive existence is what attracted the nobility of the north to the Littlefields. The Littlefields were reluctantly elevated to noble status and granted rights over both Port Maya and Refuge.   The Littlefields have provided steady and loyal support to the emperors of Jakonia, and have rarely felt the threat of war upon their shoulders, with the handful exception of the odd corsair and bandit attacks and raids. Even during the Great War, the peaceful life of the Littlefields was uninterrupted. After the Northern Rebellion, the leaders of the Littlefields have done little to change these policies, but some do express concern over the increased meddling of the emperors in affairs of the towns surrounding Lake Okeechobee, and are worried that the preparations for war may bring it at long last to the lands of the Littlefields.
