Southgate

Southgate is a ruined mission and fortification on the border between the Sypi Confederacy and the Kingdom of Losana. Originally built by the Sihka Tribe, it was used to monitor and tax border traffic and caravans between the two nations. During the Sypi Civil War, Southgate became the stronghold of the Church of the One Sun and the mercenary and volunteer forces that arrived to join the Sihka cause against the Bienombes and their allies. It was destroyed during the last battle of the war, along with the Sihka Tribe. Today it is a common refuge of bandits and raiders causing problems in both nations.

Purpose / Function

Originally built as a single keep by the Sihka Tribe, Southgate was designed as a large tower complex that could overlook the surrounding forests of the Foretbasse. Voudoun raiders and other bandits looking to prey upon Sihka territories could be spotted at a distance, helping the tribe preserve the peace along the northbound road. The keep had a large barracks and several obsolete siege weapons mounted upon the rooftop acquired from the River Watch. Toll towers were also built along the road, allowing the Sihkas to control the flow of trade.

Alterations

Within a decade of Southgate's construction, the Church of the One Sun was invited by the Sihka Tribe to establish a mission within the keep's grounds. The Church sponsored the construction of a palisade around the main citadel. Inside the newly created compound, the clergy built a large place of worship, inviting traders and and travelers to attend services, while proselytizing to the surrounding tribes and clans. Included was an underground dungeon, for Fellowship of the Palm operations, seeking out heretics and those who would threaten the expansion of the Church's interests in the Sypi Confederacy.
