Fort Luce

Fort Luce is a fortification near the intersection of the borders of the Sypi Confederacy and the kingdoms of Forard and Losana. Constructed and maintained by the Forardis, this castle is meant to halt raids from both voudounist rebels in Losana and tribal marauders from the Confederacy. It is built upon a hill that overlooks the surrounding forests, protecting the citadel from both storms and sneak attacks. The watchtowers along the castle are built tall and are consistently filled with observers to watch any approach towards the fortress. It is highly manned and well protected, as it is a well known key location to block attempts to undermine the defenses of Forard.

Purpose / Function

Originally Fort Luce was constructed to support the Imperial Army of Jakonia during the Wars of Reckoning in the Sypi Confederacy. The tribes had united, along with support from the Shin Empire and a collection of goblins and orcs. These forces posed a massive threat to the Jakonians who had begun to settle within the Confederate territories and the tribes that supported them. Fort Luce was created with the idea of driving a new highway into the heart of the Confederacy through the Foretbasse. This citadel was created to act as a supply depot and protection for these construction efforts. Emphasis was placed upon storage and housing for the soldiers who arrived.

Alterations

After the Great War was lost to the Jakonian Empire, attempts to build a highway into the Sypi interior were rapidly abandoned. The old trade routes through the Kingdom of Losana remained intact. Unfortunately, the tribes of the Sypi Confederacy had gained extensive confidence in their abilities to attack Jakonian interests. These tribes began raiding into the heart of Forard, and Fort Luce had to be redeveloped with observation and patrols in mind. The old storage sites for construction materials were converted into barracks, while new towers were built to allow observation of the surrounding woods. Relay towers were also built in the forests surrounding the castle, in order to provide early warning of any advances from the north.
The outbreak of religious violence in Losana led to further alterations being made by the engineers in charge of Fort Luce's defense. The use of undead by voudounist rebels occasionally would cause great terror and destruction in Forardi territory. The castle was equipped with modern siege weapons and equipment, all designed to inflict maximum damage upon massed groups of undead. These were supported by fire cauldrons that allowed the castle to retool to prevent massed assaults on the surrounding area.
