Ilmater, the Broken God

Whether he received his wounds as a mortal or as a god, Ilmater is believed to have been tortured by either Bane or Gruumsh. Ilmater is the Human god of perseverance, martyrdom and endurance, and wields his pain with a quiet dignity. A favored god of the outcasts and lower classes of Human societies, he is known to be merciful and kind to his worshipers, often taking on their suffering. His visage is often seen by the dying, particularly those imprisoned or mortally wounded on the battlefield. He offers compassion to the sick and downtrodden and his temples double as free clinics for the poor. Secret shrines of his offer safe harbor for the oppressed. The Crying God is said to have particular compassion for children and small creatures and the few times his righteous wrath has been witnessed has been when one of these were threatened. Ilmater appears as a short and sturdy man, dressed in rags and chains, covered in scars and burns, with his bones seemingly fractured and joints dislocated.
