Iain's egg was fertilized and lain in the 030's. His parents kept his egg dormant, fearing to bring into their terrifying world of being hunted and trapped. The egg was found amid wreckage and the remains of frightful carnage. It traded hands over the years until it came into the custody of the monks at the Temple to Magic. In 293 Abbot Ektor figures out how to activate the egg and hatches him.
Iain is Gifted with the Mind Magic affinity of Spirit Magic, as well as the Air Magic, Earth Magic, Fire Magic, and Water Magic affinities of Elemental Magic. Growing up below Magic's temple, Their monks saw to it that Iain was quite proficient in the use of his Gifts.
Prince Diarmuid, Cadmus, Princess Azalee, Dayza, and Lady Jeslyn find him in their travels. Iain at first refused to aid them in finding his kin. Dare shamed him and eventually he found the courage to follow them and help. Dare and Iain develop a bond of friendship and mutual respect that leads them to be the first aerial knight partners in generations [re-think: why would the mage dragon partner up with the knight? Ailbhe is the one who trained as knight, she should partner with Dare and Iain should partner with Azalee to match their skillsets. They keep their original BFF, but for fighting... mixed pairs I think].
He marries Ailbhe; they have a son, Fionn/Deimne and two daughters, Bryce and Lyra, who are Broodsiblings.
Early on after the move to Nemel, he often feels awkward about his dragon-ness as he was raised by humans and everything he knows about dragon culture came out of books. The plus side of this is that he is an expert on draconic history- a lot of which was lost in their exodus from Nemel centuries earlier. He is also able to offer Aili, who becomes Ard Ri, a fresh perspective with few bred in biases.
