Dayza

Dayza of House Roandra (a.k.a. Day)

Dayza is born into House Roandra. Her mother, Abeena, is the younger sister of Lady Zanda, First Daughter of their House. She has three Gifts: Mind Magic, Leim Spatial Magic, and Star Magic. She is known to her friends as Day.

Early Childhood at the Palace

She is the first granddaughter born to First Daughter Zaleena. Due to this circumstance, she was raised in the palace with the Queen's children and the daughters of the First Daughters. She was 4 when Princess Azalee was born, but even at that young age she wanted to protect the princess. Day would sneak out of bed and mimic the Roses' Thorns standing guard at the princess' door from the shadows. Guards and staff would find her sleeping in nearby alcoves every morning. They tried locking her in her room, but she would invariably escape and resume her vigil over the baby princess. After a few weeks, Queen Azadora had a bed for Dayza put in Azalee's room, and she slept there every night until university. When she started school, Day always had an eye on what skills would make her better able to protect her Princess. When Princess Andora *Dora was born, Dayza was protective of her as well, but not to the same extent.   In 304, Zaz and Jeslyn of House Leadora decided to sneak out to see the Night Market on their own. At the palace, children have to wait until they are 14 to visit the Night Market unchaperoned. Knowing that they would never get past Day, Jes comes up with a plan for Azalee to go to her mother and, under the guise of not wanting Day to resent her, asks the queen order Dayza to take the night off and visit the Night Market. Day, feeling guilty for going to the Night Market without Zaz after telling her she would wait, finds her to apologize, and is taken aback by how carefree the princess is about it, especially as the Queen, who is usually a great patron of the Market, is feeling much too pregnant to deal with the heat. Always one to do her duty, Dayza goes to the Market with a pocket full of coins, but she can't shake her feeling about the princess. Therefore, she is not at all surprised when she finds Zaz and Jes eating candied fruit on a stick and trying to catch fish at one of the stands.

Leaving the Palace

It wasn't until she began attending attending university that Day moved out of the palace- to go across the grounds and live in the school dorms. During her time at university her childhood dream came true and she became a member of the Thorns.   When Azalee is 21, Dayza is on duty when the princess has a vision and also finds out she is different from the princesses who came before her. Day doesn't leave her side, and when Zaz decides to follow her vision and look for answers about who and what she is, Day goes with her, along with Jes. After exhausting the limited information available in Roseholm, they leave for the Free City of Bernice by way of the Star Fae Grove. It is after Azalee's first contact with the Star Fae, which they did not realize would be literally explosive, they are joined by Prince Diarmuid and Cadmus. This makes up their group until they meet Iain, who joins them... eventually. Their adventures lead them to finding and freeing thousands of magical beings from the evil machinations of a power-crazed cult- finally meeting Ailbhe in person.

Life Outside of Pelee

Azalee, understanding that she cannot fulfill the role of Pelee's queen and wanting to give her sister the space to grow into her role, decides to accept Dare's invitation to go north to Nemel with Ailbhe and the dragons; Dayza is torn, but decides on going with Zaz to protect her as always. She meets Brant. There are adventures.   In 317, when she is 28, Dayza feels it's time to do her duty and produce daughters for her House. Having no romantic interest in men, she asks Cade and Brant to be the father as they have grown so close. They agree, and with help from Azalee and Spirit Magic/Water Magic affinity of Elemental Magic, she becomes pregnant.

Returning Home

Day moves back home to Pelee to be with her family for her pregnancy, and has her first daughter, Brandy (named after Brant as Cade ended up being the father). She requests to resume her former role with the Roses' Thorns, but Lady Zanda chooses instead to groom her as a successor. And although Brandy is not the daughter of a First Daughter, Queen Azadora requests her to be raised in the palace as if she were. Dayza is honored by all this and agrees, so long as she can bring her daughter to Nemel every year for at least a month. In 320, not long before they adopt Trinny, Brant (and Azalee and Spirit/WaE magic) help her conceive her second child, a boy she names Admus. Dayza's experience in Nemel opened her eyes to the differences in treatment of men; due to this, when Admus turns 7 (327) she sends him to school in Nemel. His fathers look after him, she continues to make her annual visits with Brandy, and Admus returns to Pelee every year during Bear Moon for the Full Moons Fete.

Birth Order

Due to their rarity, daughters are highly prized in Pelee. The Queen's sole daughter becomes her heir. In the rare instance that one of her sons, the Prince(s) of Pelee, give her a granddaughter, the child is granted title and nobility, and is raised in the palace. The first of a Queen's line is given the title First Daughter. It is uncommon for the younger sister of a First Daughter to bear a daughter before her elder, but is nonetheless nearly as worth celebrating. Dayza was one of these rare instances, and as such, was allowed to be raised at the palace and groomed for governance.
