Sound Changes
  1. Vowel merger: All unstressed /e/, /i/ and /o/, /u/ merge to /i/ and /u/, respectively.
  2. The voiceless fricatives /f/, /θ/, /s/, /ʃ/, /χ/ merge to /s/.
  3. The voiced fricatives /v/, /ð/, /z/, /ʒ/, /ɣ/ merge to /z/.
  4. Gemination: All voiced stops are doubled in medial position.
  5. The nasals /m/, /n/ merge to /n/ in all positions.
  6. Stops /p/, /t/, /k/ and /b/, /d/, /g/ merge to /t/ and /d/, respectively.
  7. The approximants /j/, /w/ are deleted in all positions.
  8. The lateral approximant /l/ becomes /r/ in all positions.
  9. Word-final short vowels are deleted.
  10. Vowels /i/, /u/ become /e/, /o/ in open syllables.
  11. Insertion of /a/ between two voiceless stops.
  12. Voiced stops /b/, /d/, /g/ in initial position devoice to /p/, /t/, /k/.
  13. Fricatives /s/, /z/ become stops /t/, /d/ in word-final position.
  14. Fronting of /u/ > /i/ in the environment of front consonants and vowels.
  15. Stress shift to the first syllable of the word.
