Tålesund
Features
The Tålesund is a channel that runs through the center of The Northern Reaches, separating the continent into its two distinct regions, the Headlands in the north, and the Southlands to the south. It flows from west to east, beginning in the Veiled Sea and ending just below the mouth of the Misty Bay in the Great Sea. The island of Skøran is located in the widest portion of the strait.Flora and Fauna
Many types of saltwater fish and other marine life typically found separately in either the Great Sea or the Veiled Sea can be found together in the strait at various points. Sea turtles and porpoises are sights enjoyed by many travelers of the strait, though swimmers should also be wary of sharks the swim in from one of the two connected seas. Brackish water fish can be found at the estuary where the River Glåma meets the Tålesund. A large coral reef, the Skøran Reef, can be found just off the western shores of its namesake island, and magic users with spells allowing them to breathe underwater have made journeys to the reef to observe and study it. Sea Lavender grows around the estuary where the River Glåma meets the Tålesund, and is harvested by the native Reachmen of the area for use in tailoring and trading.Society
The strait is heavily used by trading vessels making stops in the Reaches. The major cities of Emberstone and Valeheim both maintain harbors on the strait to bring in imported goods from across the seas, and smaller docks can be found along the length of the strait. Fisheries are a common site along the shores of the strait, and ferries at various points can ferry travellers back and forth between the Headlands and Southlands. Two lighthouses on either end of the strait mark the way for seafaring vessels looking to enter the strait. Armskr Lighthouse stands on an island just west of the western mouth of the strait, while the Jorunn Lighthouse stands at the eastern mouth of the strait, at the tip of the peninsula southeast of Valeheim.
