Session 10: Vestige of Divergence
Unndilar 26 to Brussendar 3
General Summary
After a night of celebration and autograph-signing at the Unbroken Tusk Inn, Jigow’s newly-crowned Champions of Merit enjoyed a restful sleep on the house. The following morning, they were awoken by Elder Urshru with an invitation to break the morning fast. Duly accepting, the Rowdy Centaurs found that his initially hospitable demeanour quickly gave way to a serious discussion of visions, portents, and their potential meanings. He let the group know that the jewel that was found in a shrine of the Moonweaver the night before could be none other than a Vestige of Divergence, a holy relic from the time of The Calamity that holds a fragment of divine power. Later, Clothilde, who had discretely removed the amulet from Plundertooth’s belongings, studied it further and learned that it was known as the Jewel of Three Prayers. No fewer than three divine presences thrum within it, only one of which is currently awakened.
Urshru encouraged our heroes to pursue the meaning of their vision further, and to learn what they could about the Jewel. He further let them know that as it is a relic of the Calamity, it may be prudent to consult with visiting scholars – experts in the Calamity – who had recently taken up residence in the nearby fortress-town of Bazzoxan. He also explained that Bazzoxan was indeed home to the Betrayers’ Rise, a foul temple of abyssal origin that the forces of the Dynasty had long fought to keep under their control. During the Calamity, the Rise was not only a temple but also a key bastion in the defensive lines that protected the approaches to the Betrayer God capital of Ghor Dranas, now known as Rosohna. It was there, at Betrayers’ Rise, that one of the last battles of the Calamity was fought and the power of the Betrayers’ was smashed.
Turning then to a further breakfast discussion with the rival team from the night before, who had also experienced the vision granted by the Jewel, our protagonists learned that this other group also intended to learn more about the artifact and the meaning of the strange vision, though they were less sanguine on the need to immediately rush to the rescue of the figure who had introduced himself as Alyxian. To that end, they proposed that the two groups travel together for part of the way to Bazzoxan, before they would eventually split off to see what leads they could gather at the Marble Tomes Conservatory, in Rosohna.
This compact arranged, a group of ten adventures set off on the Emerald Loop Road and is currently just shy of the mid-way point in their journey. As they trek through the cold, muddy badlands known as the Wastes of Xhorhas, thus far they have encountered a few small patrols of Kryn Dynasty soldiers. One was on its way to join a large muster outside of Asarius, in preparation for what they presume to be a resumption of war against the Dwendalian Empire. The most recently encountered Aurora Watch patrol was in the midst of a fight for their lives against a toad-like demon that had hunted them down in the wastes. Coming to their rescue, the combined might of two adventuring parties and the local soldiers put the demon to rest, though not without the loss of one of the soldier’s lives.
