Marie of France

Marie Capet

Elder daughter of King Louis VII of France and Eleanor of Aquitaine. Wife of Henry the Liberal, Count of Champagne.   Inspired by her mother's culture, Marie has brought Occitan ideas of fin'amors, Courtly Love, to the North. She is literate in French and Latin, and owns an extensive library. She is a great patron of literature and the arts, and her court attracts writers and poets, including Andrew the Chaplain and Chrétien de Troyes.
