In the current year (1492 DR), Lady Laeral Silverhand has the honour of holding the position of Open Lord of WATERDEEP. She is the de facto leader of the city and heads the city's hierarchy of governance. As THE OPEN LORD OF WATERDEEP, she spends most of her time in THE PALACE OF WATERDEEP within walking distance of other residences set aside for visiting members of THE LORDS' ALLIANCE and their representatives.
Her most trusted advisor is MIRT, A MASKED LORD OF WATERDEEP, a fellow member of THE LORDS' ALLIANCE
Her history is long and storied and, as one of seven daughters of the goddess Mystra (born 765 DR), she is an ageless beauty with a penchant for the arcane. She has held several powerful positions over the course of her lifetime, including Witch-Queen of the North and wife to Khelben Arunsun, the THE BLACKSTAFF, LORD MAGE OF WATERDEEP (died 1374 DR).
After the Spellplague and the Sundering shook Faerun, which led to the death, rebirth and withdrawal from the world of Mystra, Laeral's powers have diminished somewhat but she does her best to hide this fact. Only Elminster, one of her most powerful and trusted advisers, is aware of her weakened state and she is still a formidable opponent with plenty of magic at her disposal.
When Dagult Neverember was ousted from power as the Open Lord of Waterdeep, Laeral reluctantly accepted the position and, despite difficulties at the start, has grown into the role dealing with the demands of nobles, merchants, guildmasters and other fellow representatives from THE LORDS' ALLIANCE.
