A7 - Fire & Stone

General Summary

ACT 7 - Fire and Stone

1496.WI.76   For their bravery and contributions to Phandalin the mayor and people voted to gift the ruin of Tresandor Manor to the party. Whilst still a ruin the building had great significance to the settlement and the people even agreed to help work on restoring the building. Over the period of many weeks the cellar was cleared of its waste and clutter. The stone from the local area was used to create the ground floor where carpenters help create new furntiure, seamstresses made curtains and even Barthen's Provisions supplied rugs, kitchen wear and books. During the rebuild workers search far and wide for stone. One day a worker came running back to the Manor explaiming that he was being chased by the undead. The party ready for a break of labour on the house set off in the direct described.   The group soon came across an old mysterious tower upon a hill. Outside the tower a small tent was erected and a number of zombies wandered around the perimeter. Notably these zombies had skulls motif stamped on their heads. Just as combat started an old fellow burst from the small tent shouting about the commotion. The human man although clearly old with his gaunt face and sunken eyes was surprisingly sprite. It was very quickly clear to the party that this necromancer had ill intentions. Maple who had been speaking to Reidoth knew of an evil growing in the land and was quick to act. Rapidly striking down the zombies, the necromancer fled into the small tent. Making chase the party lifted back the tiny door to reveal a huge interior. The spacious interiorcontained texts, notes and a few potions, however the necromancer was no where to be seen. Stumped the party inspected the tower that he had clearly been trying to enter.   Although the tower was ancient, the stone was smooth and had no visible enterance or windows. A small riddle carved onto the wall was the only unusual mark. Solving the riddle by placing fire on the carving revealed a hidden doorway. Inisde a dusty study full of books and trinkets was revealed. Inspecting a small table in the middle of the circular office, as soon as an item was touched the party and the small metal owl statue was teleported to the plane of fire.   The hellish firey floor quickly begun to burn their feet if they stood still for too long. Picking a random direct the party began to walk, the oppressive heat slowly sapping their energy. Eventually the party came across a line of trader caravans heading out. When asking them for direction the leader of the traders suggested heading to the city of brass. As the city was not far and within walking distance they thanked the traders and continued on their new bearing. Reaching the outskirts of the city the party were exhausted, without finding the caravans the extreme heat of the fire plane was almost a certain death sentance.   Just before heading in Albert spotted a fire elemental and managed to convince the party that it might be able to use against the ice dragon Cryovain. Agreeing the group launched an assault on the firey beast. Struggling to damage the flames with physical weapons the group relied on magic. Just as the beast was beginning to flicker with its power waining. Albert flung a iron cage trap at the feet of the flames, slowly the elemental was sucked into the cage trapping it.   Now truely weary the party collected the cage and headed inside the city. With only a few hours of "light" left and before curfew was inacted, the party wandered the markets looking for help and someway home. However very quickly they found themselves alone in an empty market square. Regular patrolling guards meant that the group had to sneak and hide where they could. Fortunatly the stumbled across a human who was a slave to a powerful Efreeti who offered to help. She suggested that they use her masters portal back to the material plane. Accompanying her they reached a palace sized mansion of her master.   Carefully the group snuck through the vast white and gold rooms. After fourth or fifth corridor Raziel caused a huge clatter smahing a ceramic vase. In an instant a giant size red skinned Efreeti appeared at the end of the room. Inraged he belowed and white hot flames appeared from his body. He began chasing the party down the corridors. Now now care was taken for secrecy and an all out sprint commenced. Knocking over of tables, chairs and even closeign the big heavy doors had no effect. The Efreeti simnple burnt through them or turned everything below his waist into smoke and simple hovered over the objects.   Reaching the final huge door the party begun working on the complicated locking mechanism. With the Efreeti only seconds away the large doors opened a small crack allowing the party to squeeze through finding a portal inside, rapidly stepping on the portal glyphs and thinking of home they narrowly escape the white hot heat of the Efreeti's wrath. As the begin to travel from the plane the last thing they hear is the screams of the slave girl who had saved them.
