Phandalin (Fan-da-lin)

A small community set on the Tribor trail between Neverwinter and Waterdeep, situated in the Sword Coast region.   The frontier town of Phandalin is built on the ruins of a much older settlement. Hundreds of years ago, the old Phandalin was a thriving human town whose people were firmly allied with the dwarves and gnomes of the Phandelver’s Pact. However, the same orc horde that sacked the mines at Wave Echo Cave laid waste to the settlement, and Phandalin was abandoned for centuries.   In the last three or four years, hardy settlers from the cities of Neverwinter have begun the hard work of reclaiming the ruins of Phandalin. A bustling frontier settlement has grown up on the site of the old town, and is home now to farmers, woodcutters, fur traders, and prospectors drawn by stories of gold and platinum in the foothills of the Sword Mountains.   In recent times the settlement had seen difficulties with monstrous attacks and bandits coercing the inhabitants.   The town has become even busier in the months with the threats gone, increased traffic on the Tribor trail and more visitors.

History

An adolescent female white dragon called Cryovain had settled in Icespire peak and was travelling down the mountain to kill and eat live stock. A Drow called Nezznar going by the name of Black Spider had been searching for the legendary Wave Echo Cave. Whilst in the area he manipulated a local gang called the Redbrand ruffians to intimidate the locals and try to find the location of the mine.   Fortunately a group of adventurers arrived at the settlement and liberated the citizens of both the Dragon and the Black Spider. They also set up their own company in the ruined Tresandor Manor. Mostly concentrating on brewing of ales and transportation of goods the company was called Phandalin and District Shipping Company, PDS Co for short. This brought more work to the area and another reason for travellers to visit.
